Most of the comments people write about apps in the Android market are amazingly stupid and often overly insulting. It’s not quite as bad as YouTube comments, but it’s kinda bad. For example, one guy released a library for developers to use, and very clearly stated that it’s just a library, it does nothing by itself, it doesn’t even open. Of course, the top comments are still like “Durrrr! App duz nuthin!!! U SUck!!! i hope you get cancer!!!” Are the app comments in the iPhone app store as retarded?
You certainly get dumb-ass comments, but I haven’t noticed anything as egregious as that. Maybe Apple moderates the comments?
Yup. Plenty of dumbassed iPhone comments – in both ways. “THE BEST IPHONE APP EVER!!!111ONE1” to something idiotic like a flashlight app, or “Don’t buy i wasted my money duzn’t even work sucks!!!11!0xB!” (Meanwhile it didn’t work because some other crappily written app stole memory and didn’t give it back and they need to reboot to get things back to right. I’ve seen this even on apps where those instructions were explicitly listed in the app description.)
So far there hasn’t been anything that plumbs the depths of YouTube, but they still make me cringe.
Apple’s big problem though is with the rating system. They recently added the ability to rate an app on a scale of 1-5 right on the device – when you’re about to delete it. Guess why people are deleting it? Guess what they’re going to rate it now that Apple has made it easy for people to rate apps they’re deleting?
There’s enough durr to go around.
