I’m still really unclear on the whole thing.
Could you restate your case for us, with definitions, rather than examples, please?

I’ll try using a definition of the word. From m-w:
Note the date. The word was coined to describe people, not potatoes.
Aside;
I ran accross this in my quest for information. I thought it was both funny and revealing.
Ok. So what you are saying is that the food/meal/dish is not vegetarian. That it is the person that is vegetarian. Right? This was quite a roundabout way to reach that point.
By the way, under this definition there is such thing as vegetarian food. Steaks, for example, since cows eat only vegetables and that makes them vegetarian.
And carnivorous plants (Venus Flytraps, etc) are not vegetarian food!
This probably deserves its own thread, but do vegetarians eat figs? (I understand that the flower closes on the wasp that pollinates it and it dies in there, maybe I should have checked before posting)
Are figs vegan?

Good Lord. After seeing that second photo of all the bugs on the fruit, my hair raised, I made a wookie-ish “AHHHH” noise, and promptly decided never to eat another fig again.
At least until I forget about it…
I don’t know about vegan.
You two clicked on that link, and were inspired. Right?
Very funny.
You’re an urbanite, right?
So I won’t break it to you about food in general.
Yeah, I’ve read and seen enough to know that when it comes to the food on my table, ignorance is bliss.
