Are we at Trump’s tipping point?

Why does it sound “ridiculous and desperate” to you to mention one of Trump’s biggest promises kept in his first year when the topic of Trump’s promises come up?

It wasn’t a promise of his that he kept. It was a completely diffferent kind of transaction involving other players, that he was no more responsible for that than he is for world harmony.

I don’t give a shit about a conservative SCOTUS justice that shills at Trump hotels, I’m not going to see shit of that tax cut, and I’m actually a pretty big fan of government regulation that prevents industrial pollution from entering our water supply. So…I didn’t really get shit.
At least the liberals are crying, AMIRITE?

Or for the economy he inherited from a Democrat.

You missed my point entirely. It’s not that you personally got something or not (I’m indifferent on that subject), it was a counterpoint to your “I was promised” post. I was pointing out promises Trump did keep.

He made a promise to appoint a justice from a particular publicized list. He did so. That’s a promise kept. I don’t know what’s so hard for you to understand about that. I’m not claiming he had any responsibility for the vacancy. He obviously did not, but HOW he filled it (or more precisely WHO he filled it with) was significant.

In what way?

Because treating it as if it was a victory is nonsense. There was a vacancy on the Supreme Court. Trump is President. Of course, he submitted a nomination to fill the vacancy. It’s a routine duty of the office. If Clinton or Sanders or Cruz had been elected, they would have done the same thing. As a campaign promise, it’s like saying that if you’re elected, you promise to sit behind a desk in the Oval Office.

This is a very special presidency and every time it does anything it is going to get a prize.

I’m not treating it as a victory. I’m treating it as a promise kept. If he’d appointed his sister, or Garland, or some NYC liberal pal, it would not have been a promise kept. But he didn’t do that. He kept that promise.

Let’s give credit where it’s due. Given the quality of most of Trump’s appointments, it’s almost remarkable that he chose for SCOTUS someone who actually had a law degree and wasn’t one of Trump’s own personal lawyers.

He probably wanted to appoint one of his kids or a scumbag like Bannon, but that early in his term he was trying to act “Presidential.”

Which is “significant”?

It’s significant that I kept a promise? Isn’t there a chris rock bit about this?

When you need to list “promises kept”, haven’t you kind of lost the war already?

Yes, the difference between Gorsuch on the court and one of those other possibilities is significant, at least in my eyes.

The effect of the promise kept is significant. Same with the tax cut, again, in my eyes.

I don’t “need” a list, but I provided one for some people who might struggle to recall them. And I don’t know why that means anything about losing a war. I certainly don’t feel like I’m losing a war. In fact, it feels a lot like winning.

All Trump did was nominate the person who he was told to nominate. You could have trained a dog to do that.

I don’t see how Trump deserves credit for doing something so basic, it would have literally been more difficult for him to have not done it.

Oh, yes, I can see the Republican Senate confirming one of those. Trump had to fight so… hard… for Gorsuch. A true leader! More like being led by the nose.

LOL, can you imagine all the Republican senators refusing to bring their own President’s nominee forward for a vote?

I live in rural New Hampshire, real MAGA hat country and I noticed something recently that seems to look like a change is blowing. After the election, there were a couple of Trump campaign signs around town that were never taken down. They are big ones too, 5x10 or so. Anyway, I’d drive by them every day and think about vandalizing them in some clever way, and I imagine I must have been the only one, because they stayed unmolested for over a year. Then recently I noticed one of them had a sticker plastered over “great” so now it says “Make America Nixon Again”. The other sign has just been spray painted with a big “Fuck You”.

Maybe Cadet Bonespurs is wearing a little thin up here.

Nevermind

Why is this worth mentioning? There was absolutely, positively, in no way, in no universe, real or theoretical, any action performed by President Trump that any other politician who has ever lived wouldn’t also perform in the exact same way. The bar is now scraping the ground. Jesus.

What are you talking about? HRC didn’t provide a list she promised to pick justices from. She certainly wouldn’t have nominated Gorsuch. She wouldn’t have pushed for a tax cut either.

Spoken like someone that never actually listened to Clinton.
