Are we seriously disappearing threads now?

Why is my thread from IMHO gone?

I was hoping to take a minute to get in touch to decide what to do with your post, which was made in the wrong forum and was a pretty bad idea. But if you’re determined to get banned I guess it’s not my business. You can find the thread in the Pit.

Why? It was asking for opinions, it went in the opinion forum.

Want to clarify? I’m going to be banned for what - for asking where my thread went? For asking for opinions? Help me out here.

No I can’t. Can you link to it please?

Edited out a bit as I now see more of the context

Real opinion questions go in IMHO. That thread was a passive-aggressive way to tell people you feel you’re being picked on. That belongs in the Pit.

No, and no. After you picked up the warning for that link, you were told that you’d earned four warnings in the last two months and were facing a suspension if you cool it. You weren’t happy with that, and started a thread in IMHO to complain about it. The complaining is totally within the rules, but what you were doing is usually what people do when they’re flaming out, which is why I hid the thread for a few minutes while I tried to figure out what the hell you were doing and what you thought you were doing. And it was still in the wrong forum.

Here.

Quoting from the rule, just so we’re clear about what was wrong with the link, which was both not work-safe and not identified:

No, it was a way to gauge how people felt without getting the extreme opinions that are common in the Pit.

I don’t know where this misconception came from; another mod said something similar. It’s more like 7 months, and I strongly disagree with at least 2 of them, hence the thread asking people’s opinion if a picture of crap was really all that offensive. I honestly cannot comprehend how it is. Someone mentioned that a similar picture was in a newspaper awhile back.

The thread should’ve been here, then. But we’re here now, so I’ll drop it.

Right you are. It’s three in the last two months, four since February.

The problem is that you linked to it directly, with no warning, and did not make it clear what you were linking to. All kinds of NSFW links get posted here, but they usually get broken - often with warnings to the posters - when they’re not identified.

If it was in a newspaper I’m guessing it was in a story about the runner who got the runs, or a story of about weird pictures that get popular on the 'net, in which case people would have had some idea what was coming. Again, not the case with that link.

Wtf? Wrong again and you must know it by now. You obviously checked. It’s two in the last two months.

Are you really suggesting you are somehow capable of reading all the text in a newspaper before looking at the pictures?

Not one to catch flies with honey, are you?
I checked, but not that closely since it’s the end of a long week and I’m at work. You’re right on the timing: you got one in February, one at the end of June, one in mid-July, and one Monday. It’s been a long week, but I also wasn’t that far off last time: it’s three in the last two and a half months. That minor error doesn’t change the situation.

I’m suggesting your analogy is irrelevant, which it is.

To address the question in the thread title, by the way, we do disappear threads sometimes and that’s always been the case. Usually that treatment is reserved for trolls, socks and spam, but a few times (I think twice) I’ve temporarily hidden threads while trying to figure out what to do with them.

Well, I’m obviously not going to change your mind on this but I would just like to restate that I strongly disagree. My comparison is absolutely not irrelevant. If anything, I would expect the average BBQ Pit reader to be significantly more desensitized to potentially “offensive” material than the average newspaper reader. Just look at the language and subjects handled in each medium.

So, if he doesn’t get any more warning he will get banned? Where do I sign up for that status?

Asked and answered.

Now it’s just argument, which is actually in room 12A just along the corridor.
