Are you a white, liberal, atheist man?

White.
Male.
Agnostic.
Conservative.

Probably “questioning” would have been more accurate. I present as a man, and always have, but I’m no longer entirely certain that I fully identify as male.

This implies that I did it accidentally.

You’re question about who am I to tell you you’re wrong strikes me as unnecessarily antagonistic. I never called you wrong, I said I either didn’t understand or disagreed, and asked for further explanation. And as a Jew myself, by ethnicity but not by religion, I do at least feel qualified to say that as an ethnically Jewish person, I would consider my own race to be white. But I can see how, if you felt that your language and cultural practices and cuisine and all were more in line with an Ethiopian Jew than your fellow white Americans (if you live in America), that you might feel differently than I do.

And thank you, Babale, that picture was helpful

I voted for the question title in the poll because I think the whole poll has no grey areas and is very “let’s put you in a box. Who cares if you’re a couple of different ethnicities/races, you don’t define yourself by your gender, and think deeply about spiritual/religious questions. I just want to know black or white, yes or no.”

Stop that!

(Can we have a poll where we ask for more smart assery?)

Seriously, I hang out here (too much) for the witty banter, wry quips and snark as much as the actual content.

Of course I am. Who isn’t!?

I am a white liberal atheist, manifestly female.

White, male, non believer, an armchair anarchist communist, but sure, “liberal” for the purposes of the poll if that means leftish

White, conservative, Catholic, male.

Male, liberal (by US standards), atheist.
But not white.

I am an American of Piratical Descent and a Psychotronic Hermeticist.

Arr.

White
Male
Episcopalian
Libertarian

White, male, atheist, more of a centrist but if you ask my friends, a liberal. (Anyone who didn’t vote for Trump is, by default, a left wing, radical, socialist, antifa supporter)

White conservative pagan man.

White
Male
Liberal
Christian

For a board that is not specifically atheist, the percentage of respondents that are atheists is extraordinary (compared to the general population, for example). Any specific reason why non-believers are over represented on this board?

Not an atheist myself, but I think it’s that atheism by and large has tremendous overlap with liberalism, science, rationality, philosophy, etc. - stuff that the Dope is big on.

And yes, we had a thread a few months ago in which the ratio of atheists to theists was something like 30-to-1.

Frankly, I would be very surprised if the actual proportion of atheists to theists on this board (if one was able to actually conduct a census) would be anything close to 30-to-1, even if atheists are substantially more common here than in the western world, in general.

Any particular thread on this board will wind up being a “convenience sample,” of those who are interested enough in the particular topic to actually respond. So, if a thread felt like it was 30-to-1 atheists, it was likely in part because the topic was particularly relevant or interesting to some atheists.

White atheist male. Liberal/conservative/libertarian depending on the issue. except on Tuesdays when I am a conservative liberal. unless its is raining, then I’m liberal conservative. but every Wednesday I am a libertarian. but if it involves national security I’m a conservative, or law and order. except when it directly affects me, so I’m a liberal libertarian.

Unless I have to deal with city building inspectors, then I’m an Anarchist. Unless my neighbor is building an illegal deck. in which case I fully support city building inspectors.

Fair enough, but even having 20% of a group in america identify as atheist is a rare event, outside of atheist groups and perhaps high level scientists. I still think it’s pretty extraordinary for a relatively general interest board that doesn’t advertise as non-religious to have this high a percentage.
