Are you addicted to Social Media?

I am to Twitter.

No.

You did reply to your own comment, you addict!

Fortunate is the one who has no addiction!

I am a little envious.

I am really addicted. Mostly reading Twitter.

No. Unless you count here in which case ------- I’m Kopek and I’m an addict.

Nope. The only thing that even vaguely resembles social media that I pay any attention to is this forum, and I’m definitely not addicted - I pretty much only post here while I’m bored during slow times at work. When work is done, so am I - I go home and do other things that have nothing to do with this place.

Ilook at FB every day to find news of my children and grandchildren and rarely post. I do not have a twitter account (so I cannot follow Putin’s Puppet). And I don’t consider TSD as social media.

Commenting on SDMB and a couple artsy forum sites - that’s all the socializing I can stand.

I’m not on any social media. This board is the only thing I do that’s in that ballpark.

Message boards are social media. the only reason to disagree is because you don’t like the negative connotations associated with social media.

I used to use facebook to get laid but since I met my wife I maybe get on 4 times a year.

I tweet for work. I need to be better about it but I just can’t make myself care.

I don’t have an account on any other social media.

If message boards count I’ve got three that I spend time on but I wouldn’t say I’ve got an addiction since I go away all of the time and don’t miss it.

I’m not on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin or any similar stuff.
I post here and that’s it.

I don’t have a mobile phone and I’ve never sent a text.

Why yes, I am getting on a bit!

One big difference to me between this board and most social media is that most people use their real names on Facebook and the like. The use of pseudonyms on this board allows for a certain level of anonymity.

I do consider message boards, even anonymous ones, to be social media. This really isn’t much different from reddit.

Anonymity doesn’t really mean anything. I can be anonymous on twitter, reddit, yahoo, etc.

And yeah, I am addicted to it, though I am not active on many of the top social media platforms. I check my facebook feeds a couple times a day, twitter a few times a day (I only follow about 5 people). Quora and reddit if I see an interesting topic in my email.
Do some likes, maybe a rare comment. And of course I come here all the time (and IMDB before their boards shut down).

I don’t pay any attention to instagram, snapchat, tiktok, or any of the other image-centric ones.

No. Too easy. :frowning:

I have 3 message boards that I look at every day, SDMB being one. The others are horse related. I have FB that I look at every day. Don’t do Twitter, Snapchat, IG, or anything else like that.

I can definitely see your point, but the phrase social media wasn’t in common parlance until the rise to hegemony of Facebook and the arrival of Twitter. And when people ask if I’ll give my social media handles and I tell them my username on SDMB, they’ll reply “no that doesn’t count”.

Wouldn’t this be like arguing “Horseless carriages” are not cars?
