yeah god know’s pregnancy/condoms/sex aren’t medical topics. Why it’s not like they have doctors studying those things and taking care of those things. Why I never considered any of those things to have anything to do with medicine. Nor can misunderstanding any of those things lead to (potentially) dangerous consequences for all involved. :putz:
How sad.
Alas, poor **Handy is no more.
I do hope he can come back later. Although I do understand this was the straw, I could see how he might not have realized how it sounded…
Now what the hell does that mean?
That she has the highest post count of any current poster?
Post count.
On further reading of the handy ban thread, I see where he gave out considerable medically-related information in his second post. I retract my remarks. Buh bye, handy.
Just for the record, there are plenty of other people (myself included) who are knowledgable about deafness and deaf culture and who haven’t broken the rules. So don’t mourn him on that account.
Soon to be eclipsed by Q.E.D
He was warned generally long before his recent specific warning about medical topics. From TubaDiva, exactly 2 years ago today:
Incidentally, Cecil himself basically told him to calm down in that same thread. Do you suppose you should consider taking things down a notch when Cecil himself tells you so?
Singular, I assumed he was referring to post counts.
The irony being that if this in fact the statement that turned handy into bandy then he got the ax for posting something that is factually correct. There are a number of STDs which may be transmitted while condoms are being correctly used. Condoms do split and they do fall off. The inference may have been drawn that he was saying that STDs are equally likely with or without sex, but as a matter of medical fact his statement was correct.
It’s probably the first time. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
I thought I was the only one who used that stopped clock line anymore.
I wondered if you had seen that. Thank you.
You’re such a big influence on me. You know, them young kids with the digital clocks prolly don’t know what we’re talking about.
I think this is the first time I’ve said it, but it was so appropriate I just had to.
I’m not sure if this is good or bad, but that line just makes me think of a very similar quote in the film Withnail & I, and a sample of that quote used in a song by Ride.
What if the digital clock is flashing 12:00?
Well, then it would be right 120 times a day.
Since he was already on the hook for spreading misinformation in medical-related threads, he should have been banned long ago for his ignorant contributions to this thread. It involved a discussion of cochlear implants, and handy made the flat-out erroneous assertion that the implantation of the device
“often, not always” severed the auditory nerve, an impossible event due to the anatomy of the cochlea itself.
When I called him on his error, he refused to acknowledge his mistake. When I challenged him to provide a single cite, he disappeared from the thread altogether.
I was aware at the time that handy was forbidden by the mods to dispense medical-related information on the boards, and was expecting something to happen as a result of his actions in that thread. Nothing ever did, and I always felt handy got a free pass because of that.
I’ve long seen him as an SDMB member who appears absolutely incapable or unwilling to accept responsibility for what he writes here.
I’m not going to miss him.
