Are you all happy now? (handy has been banned)

In answer to the question phrased by the title of this tread: Yes. He had a huge post count and the vast majority of those posts were useless. We just don’t need that here. It’s a shame because I do think that he’s a nice guy but it was the right thing to do.

Haj

I thought that too, until I read his second post in the thread he got banned in. It was, as you say, unquestionably medical in nature.

Just about ALL warnings are “formal”. If you were mentioned by name, consider it a formal warning. If it was addressed to you, that’s a formal warning.

And sometimes we don’t give second warnings, depending on the offense.

Lynn

Is that a warning?

Nah. That wasn’t a warning, that was a statement.

On the subject of warnings, I banned Evil-Monkey-With-Excessively-Long-Name without any sort of warning, just as I or someone else had banned his previous incarnations. I don’t warn for blatant trolling, or for spamming. I just ban.

Am I happy?

I’M SO VERY HAPPY!

Go Pittsburgh!

Wait … I live in Cleveland now. Can’t say that. Sorry.

Good God, Manny! You linked to Handy and peace simultaneously. What were you thinking?

If handy just liked to see his post count grow…and others who do-why is post count visible, anyways? Just curious.

And um, thanks, I guess. :o

Long Live Queen Guin!!!

I’ve heard handy took up an offer to go overseas to the middle east.
Last herd, he was enjoying some rhum with a certain other banned person…

… next month.

I like having the post count displayed. If it’s reasonably substantial, it (along with a registration date older than last week) is some small evidence that the poster is credible. Most people who are longtime, at least somewhat active board members seem to value their standing and have something to lose if they get a reputation for posting nonsense.

On the other hand, my experiences with handy (NPI) are making me think that too large of a post count shows unreliability, too. No one person can have something useful to say in that many threads.

(FWIW, the banning was more than justified. He posted nonsense for far too long. I am curious about one thing, though. Has he ever tried to justify his posting style, anywhere? I really have a hard time understanding how/why someone would do what he did. He knew what most board members thought of him, and had to have some clue that he wasn’t being helpful. Did he get some weird charge out of being annoying?)

Has anyone asked the important question?

What the hell is he going to do with the extra 8 hours a day?

Well, his username was handy, after all…

Move to Canada?

If the women don’t find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Oh, and since this is a handy pit thread, it’s a requirement that someone mention that handy doesn’t read the pit.

Red Green!! I love that guy. he cracks me right the fuck up.

I’m not sure I agree with that, I know a lot of people, (myself included,) who read a lot of threads, yet post in very few of them. A low post count doesn’t mean the poster doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

Just a minor hijack, carry on.

Oh, and just FTR, I wonder why the mods let handy go on the way he did for so long. If I was a mod, I would have banned him a long time ago. Which is why I’d probably make a bad moderator.

Some time ago there was a In Praise of Handy thread in MPSIMS. He responded to that one and said that he was aware of the complaints and Pit threads about him. I don’t recall any explanation about his behavior in that thread.

Ha! What do you know, with your measly 0.56 posts per day? Everyone knows that you need at least 0.57 to be taken seriously.

Is it just me, or has the board been a lot faster in the past, oh, 12 hours?
