Are you getting a flu shot?

They used to do this at my work. Now they give us all a coupon that can be redeemed at CVS for a free shot.

Yep, my asthmatic self got one when I went for my annual physical.

I’m impressed with how many of you have already gotten your shot. Good for you!

hajario, I’m sorry for your loss.

Yes, got mine Wednesday. I hate needles, but love vaccinations & immunizations.

Really? The CDC indicates you may be overdoing it on the yellow fever shots.

We get free flu shots next week at work–it looks like an early season. Influenza is not “a cold.” I’m pretty healthy & get few colds. But I’ll gladly reduce my chances of flu (again)…

I got an annual flu shot for many years, then one year I skipped it.

I got the flu, it was miserable.

Then the flu led to pneumonia. That was worse.

As far as I’m concerned, the universe has spoken.

Yes, I will. I get one every year. I work in an elementary school with special needs students, many of whom have even more limited concepts of personal hygiene than is already typical in the 5-11-year-old age range. So I always get one. My work doesn’t offer it but our insurance, like most, fully reimburses.

I went to get mine already, but the pharmacy I use didn’t have them yet. It gives shots for just $15 to anyone without insurance. I’ll get mine whenever I have occasion to be back in that town again, ostensibly within the next couple of weeks.

Absolutely. When I finally get a day off, anyway ( 27 days in a row and counting now…).

I got the flu a few years ago despite getting a shot and it was sheer fucking hell. Despite that failure ( which may have been a timing issue ), I will take any chance at all to avoid repeating that experience, even if it were only 10%.

Yes I plan on it. Usually get it each year. Would much rather get stuck with 10 needles than have the flu. Furthermore, contributing to the herd immunity is important.

I got mine in June while I was in the hospital, and a pneumonia shot also.

I have never got either one before in my life, but since I am over 60 now I thought I had better.

I have a Dr appt next week for routine stuff - getting blood drawn tomorrow in anticipation. And I’ll probably get the flu shot then. I’ve never had the flu and I don’t think I’ve gotten the shot since I got out of the Navy in '84, but what the heck - I’m 62 and I’m a lousy patient.

I got the shingles shot last year (or was it the year before?) but I don’t think I’ve ever had a pneumonia vaccine. I’ll talk to the doc about it all next week.

I’m old enough to be considered in a priority group for it, but I’m another that believes it’s good citizenship to help maintain herd immunity.

I pass it up because the last time I had one I experienced a severe allergic reaction.

I’d like to get one, because I’ve had the flu and don’t care to re-experience it. However, I have yet to get good information on whether or not I should get another one, could get another one, how to determine if a new formulation is safe, and so forth. The assumption is usually that I have an egg allergy except I can eat eggs with no problem so maybe it was some other component of the vaccine. The fact that the bad reaction occurred nearly 40 years ago now also complicates the matter as I have no clue what all was in that vaccine.

Also, my health insurance won’t pay for an alternative to the standard vaccine unless they have a “documented” bad reaction - meaning they won’t take my word on it for something that happened 40 years ago. How the hell am I supposed to “document” that? My parents are both deceased, the clinic I went to at the time no longer exists, no one remembers the names of any personnel involved… Apparently I’m supposed to risk death in order to get this “documentation”.

I don’t know why the notion I might be allergic to vaccine gets such push back - in my particular case I have multiple “documented” allergies so it shouldn’t be that shocking I might have another one.

Yes, I’m a bit miffed. I am every year. My spouse has had his already so at least there will be someone healthy around to take care of me if I get sick.

And, aside from the whine I just posted - a big THANK YOU to those of you contributing to herd immunity. It’s the only protection people such as me have against the flu.

Getting it on, um, Tuesday, I think. At work, so the reminder will show up like a meeting.

I’m asthmatic and get it every year. I’ve had the flu once in 30 years, and it was awful. Influenza A back a few years ago when it slightly mutated to duck the vaccine. I was in bed for the better part of a week, even with Tamiflu, and on steroids for the asthma for two weeks!

New guidelines say that everyone should get it.

Yep. Getting one for my fireplace too.
mmm

Wife and I got the High Dose shots at Walgreens last Friday. Zero cost with our Medicare Advantage plan.

Got it a few weeks ago; I get it every year.

I am also up to date on the TDAP. I paid a chunk out of pocket a couple years ago to get the meningococcus vax.

I plan to get the shingles vax soon.

Still no autism or extra eyeballs or anything else…yet.

Up till now I never have because I wasnt in a high risk group but I think I will this year because of my age.
