Are you in a play... or the SCA

OK, time for us Scadians to sign in, and then answer queries from the “mundane millions”.

I live in the West Kingdom, been in for 24 years. I am a Court Baron, have my own household with some 20 members, etc, and am a Constable.

Espix- I know you’re one of “us”- fess up.

I live in Caer Galen, Outlands.

I don’t play, but I turn up at events anyway sometimes. Its a pretty small community and I know many in the group.

Oh, come-on, I know there is more- is everyone asleep?

Lord Daffydd Ap Gryffn, 13th Century Templar. I live in Trimaris (Florida, and we own Panama now). Been in the Society for 14 years this next February.

Yes, yes, but next time spell my name right so when I do a search I can actually find it… (I mean, who has time to read every forum and every thread? Oh, well, uh, I guess I do, but the search saves time, no matter how egotistical it might seem!)

Joshua the Imperfekt, AoA, Kingdom of the East, Barony of Bhakail, Clan Blue Feather, Den Mother of the encampment, host emeritus of the Ball & Fashion Cotillion at Pennsic every year, and all around whipping boy. However, I will soon be living in the Barony of Calafia in the Kingdom of Caid, so if anyone’s going to recommend me for that Silver Crescent, it’d better be soon!

Esprix

I attended the Ball back in '93. Were you involved with it then, Esprix? We may have met…

esprix: sorry about the Typo in your name. Hey, since you’re gonna be in Caid, you can come play with us Westies sometime, you can be my guest in my encampment. Same for any others who may be visiting, let me know, and I’ll give you an invite. Things will be very different in Caid, Lord Joshua. They rarely camp, fer instance. Also, as in the West, they are 'top-heavy", my being a Baron is not such a big deal out here.

Q: What do you call a Western Belted fighter? A. Your Excellency

::: putting on my faire garb and in my best wench accent…:::

Good Lawd it’s those wicker warriors come to invade us again!

::another resident of Trimaris checks in::

I’m Maura of the shire of Amurgorod. I’ve been playing for 3 years or so and I am my shire’s Arts and Sciences officer. I am also practicing to be a combat archer.

Get a life…Nerds!

OldS: I know you can’t run fast enuf, bucky. And if you tried to hide, the faint jingling would give you away.

I have several SCA friends in So CA. I attended a few “Calligraphy parties” (that’s what I remember them as being) many years ago. The whole purpose was to make up the certificates (or documents, whatever you want to call them) for SCA members. I am a pretty decent calligrapher, and I also draw, so my talents were appreciated. It was fun. A whole lot of us, working together, making up these fabulous illuminated documents!

I used to be involved in the High Fantasy Society (HFS) - similar group, but lighter weapons (we pad the weapons, not the people) and much less expensive to do. SCA tends to lean toward re-CREATION, HFS leans toward REC-reation. And since it’s fantasy, magic was allowed (and similated in all kinds of silly ways.) although I just used a Claymore.

Haven’t played in about two years. Sometimes I’m tempted to go out some weekend and jump back in.

Oicu812, I might have been there, but I think in '91 I wasn’t hosting. Was it in the Barn or in a large tent?

yosemitebabe, those were (at least in the East) known as Tyger Clerks, working on various awards - probably Award of Arms for the most part, the first level award in the SCA (society-wide) and the most common. After that there are kingdom-level awards for fighting, service, and arts & sciences, and then Society-level awards for the same (making you a knight, Master or Mistress of the Order of the Pelican, or the Laurel). Me, I’m just a lowly AoA (which took about 8 years, and it’s been another 3 and still not much else, but that’s ok - I’m not much for awards). It’s cool they had parties to do the scrolls, as it’s so hard to find people to volunteer to do them. I do calligraphy myself and might get back into it for the SCA.

Lord Erc the Cross-Eyed, now in the Barony of Madrone, Kingdom of An Tir.

I don’t play much here in the big barony. I was pretty active out in a little provicial shire out on the coast, holding just about every shire office at one time or another. I got my AoA during two years as seneschal. I left the place, and the bozos that took charge after me royally screwed up somehow, and the shire has been dissolved. It was called Silverthorne, by the way.

My roommate has started spending time with the Society again, so it’s possible I’ll rejoin soon. It’s just a little hard getting used to a barony so large that the culinary guild has six times as many members as my old shire.

My roommate is dating a guy who just completed his armor. At last night’s fighter practice, he had the honor of having the King be the first to hit his new suit.

That should be ‘provincial’ of course, though it isn’t in mundane BC. In this part of An Tir, any group that isn’t on Interstate 5 is provincial.

Esprix: It was in '93, in the Barn. Good times.
I went to Pennsic to help Jolly Sven run the Triskele Tavern. It was my first and only trip to the War so far. I always seem to have the time, but no money, or vice versa.
