Let’s see if the demographics of the Dope reflect that of society…at least based upon income and/or net worth.
Are you part of the 1%, meaning is your annual household income more than $750,000 or alternatively is your household net worth greater than $10 million? If either of these conditions are met then you can answer in the affirmative that you are part of the top 1%.
It might have been more interested to ask for more data…say, top 1%, top 5%, 10%, 50%, etc. Looks like the current poll just has 99 dopers, not in the top 1% and 5 that are. It would be interesting to see where most break down (my WAG is that the majority of dopers would be in the top 10%, but that’s just a guess).
What is the correlation between wealth and problems/mental health issues? Haven’t had personal experience with either, but I think it would be much easier to be wealthy than poor.
I would guess zero or close to zero in those rarified levels, but that’s just my WAG. I’m actually surprised that 5 dopers out of 100 claim to be in the top 1%, to be honest (though, as another poster mentioned, this is 1% in the US…if we are looking at worldwide it’s a different matter).
I live in Germany, and the Handelsblatt writes that the distributioin is: • Reichste 0,1%: Ab EUR 5.490.000 • Reichste 1%: Ab EUR 1.330.000 • Reichste 5%: Ab EUR 438.000 • Reichste 10%: Ab EUR 279.000 • Reichste 25%: Ab EUR 126.000 • Reichste 50%: Ab EUR 22.8000
(Reichste means “richest”, Ab means “more than”). So I will answer accordingly and ignore your 10 million. GAP Gemini writes that there are 1,280,000 millionaires in Germany. That fits just about right with the 1,330,000 € you need to be in the 1%.
I doubt we’ll ever qualify by income unless my wife is dragged kicking and screaming into a big time executive role.
Maybe by wealth, eventually. Obviously the thresholds will rise over time.
