Are you supposed to wax the top or the bottom of the surfboard

Small but important correction: the “fin” on a surfboard is a skeg, not a skag. Check that dictionary.

Welcome to the SDMB. A link to the Staff Report is appreciated. Are you supposed to wax the top or the bottom of the surfboard?

you wax the top to provide grip. surf was, as opposed to ski and snowboard wax, which provides less friction, surf wax is stickier so your feet and stomach dont just silp off. Do Not Question My Authority! i live in san diego.

I’ve seen both words used. I have kayaks, and “skeg” is the term I always see in Kayaking magazines.

i have never heard any of the surf team, surf club, or surf gangs Ever say skag or skeg, whichever may be right.

It sounds like you’re using your San Diego location to claim authority on ski wax only. This is good, because it means I can still question your authority on ski wax. You use two kinds of wax on cross country skis: glide wax to the tip and tail, to reduce friction when moving forward; and grip wax on the center, arched portion, to increase friction and keep that ski from moving backwards, which could cause you to fall in any of a number of humiliating and painful positions. You’ll have to accept that this is the voice of experience speaking; the bruises, while impressive, left no lasting scars
