Are you tired of turkey?

I’m not!

Just made myself a turkey salad sandwich ad it is DELICIOUS! Pretty sure this is the 7th day in a row that my food intake has involved a pretty good serving of turkey.

Should have enough for at least 1 - maybe 2 - more days. Yum!

How about you?

I never get tired of turkey because you can simply prepare it a million different ways.

Turkey for you, and turkey for me. Turkey breast specifically. I will never tire of it, I eat it all the time.

Turkey is one of the things we eat frequently, year round. So no, not sick of turkey!

We eat:

  • Turkey breast roast
  • Turkey “Ham” Salad
  • Turkey Bacon
  • Turkey Roll
  • Turkey in Gravy
  • Turkey Liver Stroganoff
  • Turkey Tetrazzini
  • Turkey Divan
  • Turkey Burgers
  • Turkey Soup
  • Turkey Jerky

Off the top of my head.

There’s not much turkey left, which is sad. The greater tragedy was running out of stuffing.

Even the fowl remnants can have value though. One of my fond memories is of the time a small, middle-aged spaniel of ours somehow got access to the fridge, hauled out the turkey carcass and was swinging it around like the world’s best dog toy.

That was so good, I just made me a second sandwich! Gonna need a nap!

Nah, I’m not tired yet. I brined our turkey and the damn thing was delicious! I had my 5th meal of turkey today (turkey tetrazzini) and I’m looking forward to further servings.

Bad turkey is a different story.

Food safety Russian roulette!

I used to LOVE turkey. But then, sometime in my thirties, my taste buds were like: “Nope, not feeling it anymore!” And I have been tired of turkey ever since.

My girlfriend is apparently tired of it–she just made a sandwich using prepackaged turkey lunch meat instead of the leftover turkey that was one shelf down.

I got the last of the Thanksgiving bird, just as I was thinking that I’m getting pretty tired of it. The dogs and cats, though… there’ll never be enough turkey, let alone too much.

Yep. I love turkey but stuffing even more. The combo is the best.

Friends had us over and they gave us some turkey to bring home. So you know it wasn’t the megatonnage that cooking your own brings.

Especially when it’s fresh and juicy, it’s great. And it can be used in so many recipes and takes on whatever flavors you add…I keep thinking I should wait for a discounted one, brine it with Alton’s recipe, and vacuum seal bags of the leftovers, throw them in the freezer.

For some reason, we got tired of it after the second day of leftovers. I bagged up the turkey and threw it in the freezer. I’ll make soup someday.

I just finished the leftover mashed potatoes for lunch today. With the rest of the leftover gravy. How long do I need to wait to find out if I got food poisoning?

That’s not the very last of Thanksgiving, I also have some turkey soup. But it’s in the freezer. I’ll take it out when we haven’t had turkey in a while. This week I’ll do bean soup.

Finished off the Thanksgiving turkey tonight.

I never tire of turkey. We were at the in-laws on Thanksgiving and only brought a little bit home with us, so I have a 16 pound bird thawing in the fridge now for roasting on Sunday. I only waited this long because it will be the first day cool enough that having the oven on all day won’t make the AC kick in.

I’m looking forward to using the leftovers even now. For sandwiches, and enchiladas, and sandwiches, and stock, and sandwiches, and soup, and sandwiches, and… You get the idea.

There are two more turkeys in the chest freezer thanks to Kroger selling them for 39 cents/lb.

I get tired of turkey pretty quickly, and only cook it once a year, for Thanksgiving. I like most meats more. Chicken and duck are delicious. Turkey is … fine.

Okay, I admit I’m a little surprised that the mashed potatoes were still good after nearly two weeks. Our fridge does keep things very cold. But they smelled fine, they tasted fine, and my bowels still feel fine. So I guess they were fine.

From time to time, I buy a large ham. My preferred way to use it is to slice it thin and fry it.

I bought a ham about two weeks before Thanksgiving and it is still fine. I sliced some of that ham and fried it today to eat with leftover stuffing from Christmas dinner (we’re already out of the turkey).

I think that as long as the outer “rind” of the ham is there and I slice off some every few days, the meat stays good. I would never keep a pre-sliced ham very long.

If I start to pick up an off taste, I do throw away what is left.

I also do the same thing with smoked turkey breast except that the turkey breasts are smaller and do not last as long.

To bring back on topic, in college we had turkey about once a week and I got really tired of turkey. It took me three or four years to start to like it again.
