Ari Fleischer is a Tolkien fan

Just watched an interview with Ari Fleischer (President Bush’s spokesman) on FNC. Cal Thomas asked him if he had any favorite books/movies, etc. He answered that he didn’t have much spare time in his job, but he did drag his wife to see The Two Towers.

Didn’t know whether to put this here, or in Great Debates.

Did he mention a favorite character? Gollum? Grima Wormtongue? The Mouth of Sauron?

Well it is a national blockbuster and all. I’m not suprised that he saw it.

I’d have thought he’d identify quite well with Grima…but I’m not sure I believe that he saw the movie, since he’s on record as saying that he did.

Naw, that can’t be right. Since Clinton was Sauron, Ari couldn’t possibly be Grima :p.

That’s it Legomancer, Straight from the Mouth of Sauron.

“…If so, take swift counsel with what little wit is left to you. For Sauron does not love spies, and what his fate shall be depends now upon your choice.

Before he said he saw the movie, he said he was a Tolkien fan. I got the impression that he was a fan of the books long before the movies came out.

Grima Wormtongue? Naw, James Carville would be the Grima Wormtongue fan.

Being the spokesman of the Bush administration, I guess he would be a fan of fantasy fiction.

I suppose Stephanopolis would have been a fan of erotic thrillers in that case…

touche’

But considering Clinton and Lewinsky, maybe that should be amateur porn.
