I have very fine bumps covering the top of my forearmes. I have had them all of my life. I am 54. My daughter has them, and curses the fact she inherited them.
I have been told they are indeed inherited, but do they have a name? Why are they there? They are very, very fine and I have seen them on other people. Could they be an allergy after all of this time?
Keratosis pilaris sounds like the condition you described. I dated a guy for quite a few years with the same little bumps on the backs of his upper arms. The site mentions applying moisturizer as a treatment but this never worked for him sadly. The postive part was that, like the site states, the bumps did fade almost completely in the summer. Per above link:
Treatment
Moisturizing lotions are often soothing and may help the appearance of the skin. Topical treatment with medications containing urea, lactic acid, Retin A (tretinoin), or Vitamin D may be recommended by your physician. However, improvement often takes months and recurrence is expected after cessation of therapy.
It does offer hope of the condition possibly disappearing with age, though I note you did say you are 54. Sorry I couldn’t be more encouraging.
I inherited keratosis pilaris (aka chicken skin) from my mother too. I’ve always hated it. I used exfoliating lotions on my arms and finally got fed up enough to ask my dermatologist if there was any other remedy. He gave me a prescription for - yup - an other exfoliating lotion to be applied twice daily, blah, blah, blah…
I guess there’s not much more you can do besides scrub and moisturize.
I finally know what they are. I think mine have faded with age.
Chicken bumps! It said chicken bumps. Yes that’s it.!
Thank you all.
