Armor to protect the forearm?

My sister- of- the- chronically- broken- forearm is having a titanium cuff made by a jeweler to protect her forearm from the daily bumps and twangs that forearms are subjected to. She’s on her second set of plates and pins to hold the bones together and said she can’t tolerate the pain and twangy vibrations she feels when the plate or pins get bumped.

The jeweler is making a nice celtic styled cuff (sort of lattice like with lots of air holes) to protect the arm from wrist to near elbow. Currently she’s using a sports shin guard.

What would a cuff- like object like that be called? She wants a nice, fancy name for it.

She claims Shiva sometimes wears a long cuff, but I think they are just bracelets:http://store.yahoo.com/lotus-sculpture/19b83.html

It wouldn’t be a gauntlet, would it?

It would be either a bracer or a gauntlet. Bracer might be more appropriate since gauntlets are also supposed to cover the back of the hand.

A fancy name for it could be Kurokote, a japanese gauntlet made of iron plates. I could’nt find a picture of one but I guess they are like the ones in Batman Begins (but without the spikes).

Bracer or vambrace … my experience of archery makes me associate “bracer” with the thing you wear to protect your inner forearm from the bowstring.

A titanium vambrace made by a jeweler? How much is that puppy setting her back, and is your last name Trump?

Like this?

Croisillon is the french word for brace.

Pro baseball players sometimes wear padded plastic armor to ward off inside fastballs while batting. If your sister doesn’t want to wear the titanium sleeve all the time, she might look into one of those.

He he- Thanks everyone.

I told her this morning I could get at least three different cool names for the thing in less than 30 minutes on “my message board”! I wasn’t expecting pictures, though!

I’ll go call her up and let her know.
