Nog originally was Jake Sisko’s childhood friend and a minor character. The role expanded in later seasons as Nog became the first Ferengi to join star fleet.Nog’s best episode portrayed ptsd after a extended battle with the Cardassians.
Aron did a wonderful job on DS9 and I’ll miss his presence in any reboots.
Damn, that’s too bad. Nog was one of the few Ferengi who actually experienced growth of his character, the other being his father, Rom, who became one of O’Brien’s assistants in Ops, then later became Zek’s successor as Grand Nagus.
I remember the PTSD episode. Nog lost his leg, but 24th century technology was able to regrow it. However, he wanted to live in the holosuite casino simulation with Vic Fontaine.
Dang. 50…even with his health issues, that’s depressingly young.
All the other main Ferengi actors were older than him (Jeffrey Combs is the youngest surviving one at 65), and yet, he’s the first to pass (not that I want Andrea Martin or Wallace Shawn to shuffle off the mortal coil, but I’d have expected them to pass well before Eisenberg).
DS9 was my favorite of all the spinoffs. He seemed to be very nice and engaged with the fans.
Was he suffering from the same condition that Gary Coleman had? They both had short stature and kidney problems.
Depending on your definition of “main”, Cecily Adams (played Ishka four times) passed away in 2004 at the age of 46. She was the daughter of Don Adams, who passed away the next year.
Andrea Martin played her in the first episode the character appeared in. Cecily Adams player her after that. She was married to Jim Beaver who had some lovely things to say about Aron today on his Facebook page.
RIP, Aron. I did some reading about him and his other projects. I was amused to discover that he hosted a podcast called “The 7th Rule.” I won’t ruin that joke by explaining it. I’d subscribe to his podcast except it seems to be full of spoilers for things I haven’t yet watched.
RIP, Aron. Thank you for your contribution to DS9, and I’m sorry you passed away so young.
Did anyone else observe, in photos accompanying news of his passing, that his wife was significantly taller than he was? I’m ashamed that I noticed. It is a ridiculous and outdated notion that the man must be taller than the woman in a hetero relationship. But we are, I hope, getting over it. I’m glad Aron and his wife were comfortable sharing photos that made the height difference clear. Good for them!
