I think it was simpler than that. Look at Maeby’s line. She says that even though ending a serious romance like that would be corny and dumb, nobody would admit it - people would convince themselves it wasn’t, because if they said so, their friends would think they were stupid for not getting it. And the friends, in turn, would also be doing the same thing. It’s a “stupid person gets one over on the smart people” kind of joke at the expense of the highbrow movie crowd, in my opinion. It’s not that you’re retarded if you think that’s uplifting, it’s that only a child would propose “they walk across the ocean” as a solution to a real-life problem.
Hmph. Hate to be a buzzkill, but according to Mediaweek, this ep came in fourth place behind King of Queens, Wife Swap, and Las Vegas – ALL REPEATS.
To quote another great sitcom, who ARE these people?! I realize, from a series of threads about a month ago, that this is a polarizing show. But I just can’t wrap my brain around the concept that there are people out there who actually find warmed-over Kevin James antics superior to AD.
Honestly, I don’t care if people like AD or not, but I’m flabbergasted by the stuff they choose to watch instead. I’d feel a lot better if the anti-AD people were watching PBS or reading a book. Why do I have to be the snob?
Can you link to that? I was trying to find it to show someone, but can’t…
It’s not all bad. You DO get that false feeling of superiority…
I read it in rec.arts.tv on Usenet. The link to MediaWeek is there, but it looks like it’s been changed to Tuesday’s ratings.
But…but…but it’s so much easier when they* tell you * when to laugh!!! Thank Og for laughtracks!
Yeah, that is nice.
And they bother to pause and let you enjoy the joke for a second or so. Nothing like a solid pause in action. None of that continuing on making you have to keep up.
What does this say about America?? Wife Swap??
- ABC 7.7/12 “Wife Swap”
- CBS 6.5/10 “The King of Queens,” “How I Met Your Mother,” 6.1/9
- NBC 5.7/9 “Las Vegas,”
- WB “7th Heaven”
- FOX’s 2.8/4 “Arrested Development,” “Kitchen Confidential,” 2.1/3.
- UPN “One on One” and “All of Us.”
Well, we beat “One on One.” :dubious:
