Arrested Development Season 5 - May 29

Nice to see Ron Howard’s father in his final acting role.

Ron: Dad, you didn’t share your thoughts on climate change, did you?

Rance: Hoax!!!

Finished it yesterday, easy to write a basic review:

Episodes 1-5 were a bit of a mess. Some funny moments, but it did not feel like classic Arrested Development and it was not as good as I hoped. Still, I do have some very funny and quotable moments in my mind from these episodes.

Episodes 6-8 were excellent. Not the best episodes of the entire series, but easily equal to the first three seasons normal episodes. Great, great stuff.

Shows and other movies that are made years after their original run always make me ask this question. Was it worth bringing back? I’d put it like this:

Arrested Development Season 4: Yes, I laughed more than others at that season. The re-edit was horrible, though.

Arrested Development Season 5: Yes, but a rough start(they need a nu start!). Glad they got it together around episode 6.

My expectations were low and I thought the first episode was not good (the seemingly five-minute-long S4 recap didn’t help.)

But then I thought it got pretty funny and was much better than S4. IMO it felt less forced.

“We’re just glad to have him around.”

You realize that this is only half of season 5, right? There are 8 more episodes sometime later this year.

After finishing it myself, I pretty much agree that episode 6 is where it hits its stride and is the most similar to the Arrested Development of the first three seasons. It’s almost as if they had completely different writers for those episodes or something. Anyhow, I do hope this continues for the final eight episodes, whenever they’re released.

A couple minutes of that were not part of the episode. They were a lead in from Netflix that plays in front of the first episode.

**George Michael: Actually, the Howards were a really great…well, I want to say family but I can’t since they all like each other.
**
I love that George Michael genuinely does not realize that families can be loving.

Maebe: These are not tech-savvy people. The other day, I turned the lounge TV on, and now that’s my job. They call me “Buttons” now. Buttons!

Maebe: At least my mom never tried to sleep with someone I was dati- oh, wait… no, Steve Holt… meh, but he’s family.

Did you all notice Lucille described Lottie Dottie DA as a real “killer”?

I wonder if Lottie killed Lucille 2.

Make that some time early next year, which is now this year.

Whatever happened with Jeffery Tambor?

Was his character written off of the show for his personal life actions? (alleged sexual harrassment, verbal abuse, etc.)

Nope.

I haven’t watched Arrested Development since the 1st season, but I thought that Tambor got fired from the show after he was accused of groping a fellow actor, but looking around, it looks like that was a different show altogether. (“Transparent”)

Yeah, AD was opaque about getting rid of him.

The rest of season 5 is online and I have watched the first one(the 9th of the season).

It’s actually really good. Like, I found myself laughing and feeling like I was watching the old show.

I hope it stays good.

I watched 9-13 today–I think it is much better than the first half of the season. (Be sure to uncheck “presume teeth” before watching.)

Finished it. It got a little bogged down again in the last episodes, but there is a big payoff in the end.

season 4 re-edit actually feels like a tv show. old edit felt more like mid 00’s “webisodes”.

I preferred the original edit by a lot. The new edit did not work for me.
