Arrrrr! (temporary eyepatch)

And an improvised eyepatch, at that. I tied a folded bandana around my head, covering my right eye. Not because something’s wrong with my eye, but because the teensy screw that holds the right lens in popped out of the frame, and let my lens fall to the floor, which fortunately had a rug on it. But damn, being monocular sucks.

My vision is naturally so bad that I can’t focus on anything more than about an inch away, and I can’t focus both eyes on one object without glasses on, because if it’s far enough away for both eyes to look at it, then it’s too far for either eye to focus on it. Trying to walk around with only one lens in my glasses is very frustrating, and trying to read is even worse.

My vision is so bad that if I had eye surgery or got contacts, I’d STILL HAVE TO WEAR GLASSES! Sure, they’d be a lower prescription, but I’d still have to wear them.

It’s the middle of the night now, my prime time to surf and do other stuff. But I can’t. I don’t think my monocular vision is good enough to drive to WalMart to get a glasses repair kit. My husband is strangely disinclined to wake up and get a kit for me, too.

So Arrr, matey. And also grrrrr.

Clearly this is a sign. You must change our titles to pirate themed or next thing you know, you’ll have a peg leg. Appease the Pirate Gods!

Obviously my comprehension is iffy this morning. I saw “screw” and “lens” and started thinking “I didn’t know Lynn had a fake eye…” and I had a vision of you using a bandana to hold your eye in place till you could screw it in proper-like.

Do I need caffeine or more sleep??

My sympathies. My vision is less bad than yours, but still decidedly sucky. I’ve had a lens pop out several times recently, and it is SO disorienting to look for that lens or sometimes a screw while trying to remember to hold my left eye shut so that I can focus with my right eye.

You think that’s bad? I thought she said she had tied a banana around her head.

I hate those screws in eyeglasses, mine fall out on a regular basis. I am thinking of buying them in bulk so I can always have several with me. Currently my sunglasses have wire twisty ties holding the lenses in. Just strip off the paper on the tie, insert through the screw holes and then line up the lens properly and tighten. But I guess you might have trouble with this if you can’t see without your glasses.

I have managed to use the tip of a steak knife in lieu of a screwdriver to repair my glasses before, in a pinch.

I got one of those little eyeglass repair kits for my sunglasses. Only thing is it’s so small and compact I don’t know where the heck I put it… Ok, I don’t need it now. Just saying…

I use reading glasses and I haven’t worn eye makeup in a long time. Tried to use some the other day and I just can’t do it anymore… sigh. Sucks to get older…

Aye, matey!

We must sacrifice a Parrot to Johnny Depp, by Billy Bones!

I will take this under advisement.

More sleep, then caffeine always works for me.

I need a new pair of glasses anyway. My prescription has changed somewhat, and the frame is pretty much shot. The opthamologist said that I could probably get away with wearing this prescription for at least another year, but one of my lenses is pretty scratched up, so I think I’ll go ahead and get a new pair, and keep this one for those times when I can’t find the new pair.

I love these frames, I look good in them, BUT…the lenses have to be screwed tightly in place. I tried the old “safety pin as screw” trick, and it didn’t hold the lens in place firmly enough. Same with a twisty tie. The lens has to be aligned just so in the frame, and then the frame has to be held tightly together. Only a screw will do.

I have a Leatherman multitool which has a tiny slot screwdriver, which is just the right size to use on eyeglass screws. Unfortunately, I didn’t have an eyeglass screw. It was lost in the bathroom carpeting.

My husband took my glasses in to an optical clinic as soon as they opened this morning. They have extended evening and Saturday hours, which makes them very handy indeed. They fixed my glasses for no charge, took them two minutes.
