Everything shown here is so beautiful! I’m jealous of the talent in this thread.
I can’t get my links to work right now but I have had two more cross stitch projects since my last mammoth one. One, completed, is a bouquet of yellow and purple flowers wrapped in a ribbon that says “Welcome” for my dad and stepmom’s new house. The other, on which I just have the outlining to do is three roses in a small gold border, in a larger red, pink and gold border.
I think next I’ll try crocheting a blanket - I’ve done scarves before but nothing so large. Any tips would be appreciated! Oh, and pprgrl, thanks for providing the cross stitch generator link! I can’t wait to play around with that!
That yarn for the scarf is absolutely beautiful, Flutterby.
I’m currently knitting this sweater from Knitty. Man, is this stitch stretchy, though! I divided for the front and back and decided that I ought to try it on, just because. I think my dad might be able to wear this, and he’s nearly a foot taller and and broader than I am. I’m working on the back above the armholes now. I have about thirty or so rows left of that, then the front, the sleeves, and finishing. I’ve been working on this since, er, February, so I’m predicting a finish date around 2010, post apocalypse.
I’m also working on a Tudor gown for me. I have all the skirt pieces cut out, I just don’t have anyplace to sew right now, so they wait to be sewn together. There’s really only two evenings of sewing left on the kirtle, I just need to get to it. After that, I get to make one for my sister, if she’ll send me her measurements. I was going to make overgowns as well, but I think the heat at Bristol this summer might be oppressive enough to scare me off that.
I was looking at that sweater before Miss Purl. It looks like some I have, and wear, as layers for winter so I was thinking of making one. Maybe. Once I finish the two sweaters for myself that I have yarn for…
I started small, with one for my son so I could get the idea down before I started something in my size. I’ve only got about 8 inches on mine, and I started it in March or so, so I might be done that one about the same time you are.
I just started my first sweater. It’s this pattern. The pattern looks pretty straightforward and it’s knit from the top down so I can try it on as I go. I figure I should have it done in 5 years or so.
I’m also in the process of binding my first completed quilt! I’ve done several tops, but this is the first one that I have fully finished. It’s very basic, 9-patch squares with straight sashing and straight line quilting, but I’m proud of it. I’m giving it to my mom.
What am I working on? Not a damned thing. Since we moved (last June), I haven’t had the inclination to work on anything, but I’ve crocheted a few baby things for friends. I’m partway through a peacock thread crochet tablecloth which is pretty stunning, but I’m afraid when I finish it, it’ll get ruined by my sons so it sits in the bag, unfinished.
I trust that I’m allowed to share my best friend’s latest handiwork? She’s gone from a casual interest in decorative gourds to this kind of stuff in about 18 months.
About a month and a half ago I made two baby hats for the charity afghans for Afghans. Since then I’ve made my first adult-sized sweater (for me) - no pics yet but the pattern is on this page, scroll down to the “146 twilight short sleeve sweater.” I made it in the pictured yarn, a cotton/modal/silk blend. I’m currently knitting another sweater for me, the Bonsai Tunic on this page, in the pictured yarn, Berroco’s Bonsai (97% bamboo, 3% nylon ribbon yarn).
gigi, thanks for the pointer to this thread! You’re right, there’s a LOT of inspiration here!
I’m not quilting much at the moment – I’m about to start putting stash into boxes to move to the west coast – so the only active quilting project is a wall quilt that my folks requested for their cabin. That’s a variation of this pattern in blues and yellows, with green and navy accents. I’m quilting now, so it’s possible that I’ll get it labled and bound and done this weekend.
I’m knitting, though. The big project is a cardigan variation of the Rogue sweater for my sister in dark green aran from Elann.
And I’m knitting socks. I’ve got two pair on needles at the moment: some Trekking XXL self-striping as my “travel” sock, and Tahoe Lorna’s Laces in CookieA’s Monkey pattern. The next shipment of Rockin’ Sock Club yarn is due next week, so I’d better get a move on!
As both a beginning spinner and a beginner in crochet, these look like things I could do that would still look pretty cool without taxing my meager skills too much!
PerditaX, crocheted dishcloths are my favourite. I just whip up new ones when the old ones have had the bun.
This thread has shamed me. I am going to start working on a tank top… soon. I have to come up with a pattern first, and it’s not so easy to just make up an intricate thread crochet pattern out of the blue. Stupid math.
I have a bunch of projects going at once (as usual) but I could use an instant gratification project. I bought two kids’s bed size duvet covers on the cheap with fish patterns on them, and I’m going to sew up a couple of cute pillow covers for them, just a simple envelope style. If I get them done today, I’ll post some pictures.
Nothing to show yet, but me and my friend put plaster strips on each other’s faces the other night. Going to cut mine, paint it, and add some shapes to it for use as a mask for a masquerade we’re going to Sunday. I feel so guilty cutting up the plain full face mold that I’ve vowed to make a new one after I’ve turned this one into a mask.
I, too, question the shoe choice. Call me old fashioned, but socks and strappy heels aren’t high on my Wear This list. I made a pair on #2 needles (per pattern) and, while they fit, I think I’ll try a smaller needle next time.
MrDibble, I’d love to see your chair!
PerditaX, I was hoping to see a knit version on the Lions site, but they only seem to show a back scrub. I’d be interested to hear how the crochet version works.
I don’t have links to anything, but I finished a few projects last month, so I’m starting new ones. Among the finished projects is a wand holder I made for a friend of mine from Knit Picks’ Elegance. It was inspired by a book I saw on Harry Potter knits, and my friend loved it.
Yarn for a pair of socks for her has just come in, put they’re not you’re typical socks. I found the pattern in Vogue’s sock book. You start by knitting a large domino-knittedd square on top of the foot and taking it from there.
On my lap right now is a rather large prayer shawl I’m working on for a childhood friend who had a bad patch a couple of months ago. I made a smaller version for myself about a year ago, and it’s fun to work on.
My next project, though, will be an adventure! I’m going to try making a pair of double-knit socks for my gentleman friend. He always wears two pairs of socks anyway, so it should be a fun challenge.
