Arthur Lee (Love) Dies at 61

Oh wow - shit. I just got Forever Changes a few months ago. Amazing, innovative stuff.

I was just about to start a thread on this.

I’m really surprised that there haven’t been more responses to this. Love was one of the most influential bands of the 60s. Could it be that there are Dopers who haven’t heard Forever Changes? If so, rectify that oversight now in belated tribute to a true genius of pop. You won’t regret it.

So long, Arthur. And thank you for the music.

I saw the news before I left for work. Pretty sad considering he had a pretty good shot at a major comeback. I read about him getting sick a while back, on a garage punk forum I frequent where one of the members of his back up band was posting tour cancellations and updates on Arthur’s health. The news started out optimistic enough but it was pretty clear he was going downhill. At least he got out of jail and was able to do a few tours before he died.

What is it with rock and rollers dying of leukaemia. Joey Ramone, Tim Yohannon and Arthur Kane just to name three.

Ah well, rest in peace Arthur. It’s too bad we didn’t get a new Love studio album before ya left though.

A bit of a not-very-surprise really, but well done Mr Lee. A hugely influential and great album. If there is any justice there will be very many musicians from the UK sending flowers to your grave.

Or it could just be that we already made a thread about this the day it happened.
