"As Time Goes By" hottie.

In the opening scene* of As Time Goes By, an excellent British sitcom on PBS, there’s a double picture frame with two photos in it. One of them is a quite beautiful young woman. I’m wondering if it’s an actual photo of a younger Judi Dench, a real looker herself, who plays the lead.
I rarely watch the show, but it’s a good one.
*Not a scene, actually, but the part where the show first comes on (intro?). I’m at a loss for the correct term, and enlightenment would be greatly appreciated. :slight_smile:
Peace,

According to IMdB, the younger Jean and Lionel in the pictures are Dench’s daughter Finty Williams and Palmer’s son (not a professional actor, apparently).

As time goes by is one of the best shows that has come out of the UK recently- and I am a fan of their shows. Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer are superb actors. The timing and the wit are superb.

I loved As Time Goes By. I used to watch it religiously on the Minneapolis PBS station when I lived up there in 1996. I’ve always gotten a little bit of a thrill that I “discovered” Judi Dench before she became really famous in the US (from Shakespeare in Love, the Brosnan Bond films and Chronicles of Riddick).

Since I’m too late to answer the original question, I’ll just point As Time Goes By fans to As Time Goes By Central, one of the best T.V. show sites on the web. Check out the Episode Guide – it has complete, moment by moment descriptions of each episode, accompanied by pictures. Reading them is almost like watching the show. The site also has just about everything you’d ever want to know about the show and its actors. The Curiosities section is hours and hours of amusement.

Exactly! “Wit” being the key word. You just don’t really see much wit in American tv. I don’t know why. Too much focus on the celebritites, at the expense of the characters, I suspect.
And now for something completely different;
The above delight is followed, in this area, by Keeping Up Appearances. A way too silly, and completely addictive, jewel.

Mind the Spode, Richard!

Read the bottom of this page here (about the death of Finty William’s father: actor Michael Williams) to discover much wit in describing her “a hottie”.

About Mangeorge’s feeling that there is no “wit” on American tv, he’s wrong. There’s plenty of it, but it’s only half there. Thank Ted Turner and Arthur C. Clarke for cable tv and how we get it.

Actually, I was referring to Ms. Dench as the “hottie”. :slight_smile:
The glimpse of the photo (of her daughter) is much too brief to earn that title. I’ll have to check out more of Flinty’s work. She has nice bones, and eyes, though. Those “English Rose” features someone mentioned on another thread.
