Ash (evil dead) and fisting....... OUCH!

Sorry about the topic title but it made me chuckle.

Anyway this one is for Evil Dead fans. The third dead movie (Army of Darkness) had an alternate ending which you can still find on the internet. It is not
the somewhat happy ending that we are all familiar with.
Ash takes one drop of magic potion per 100 years that he needs to sleep to get back to his time. As usual though Ash screws up and takes an extra drop and wakes up 100 years late to find the world destroyed by nuclear war. He falls to his knees crying and the movie ends.

Apparently the movie studio felt that this was too “dark” of an ending and had Sam Raimi redo it.

What do you Evil dead fans think? I for one love the ending as is but think I would have been just as satisfied with the alternate. Perhaps a multiple ending might have been cool too, like in the clue movie.

Actually I’ve seen the alternate ending, and I don’t like either. I think that movie needed a Holy Grail ending where the Deadites get hte book, kill Ash, and the screen just goes black.

Whaddya think?
broccoli!

Well, I didn’t read what the alternate ending was (I wanna see it myself) but I know that it’s included on the DVD.

K.

I just saw the alternate ending for the first time last week. On the one hand, it was kind of cool in a Planet of the Apes way, but I preferred the happier ending.

But: If he was in the year 1300, and he took seven drops instead of the six he was supposed to, wouldn’t that have awakened him at the right time?

I like the happy ending, but the alternate would have been OK, too (have it on tape). It is just so typical for Ash to go “1, 2, 3 (distraction) . . . 3, 4 …”

BTW, have y’all seen the ads for the new Evil Dead game? Love it! It even has Bruce in it. Unfortunately, it looks like the game’s on a Nocturne engine. I hate trying to kill things 3rd person with fancy “cinematic” camera angles!

Sam and Bruce have said before that they like the ‘real’ dark ending better because they both think Ash is the kinda doofus who deserves it.

The ‘dark’ ending was shown overseas in other countries. That’s why it exists on videotape in bootleg form. although it’s also on the rerelease that you can find in movie stores. (Look for the cover art of Ash hoisting a chainsaw and shotgun into the air while an army marches below.)

I like the S-Mart ending better just because it adds so much to Ash’s character. Sums and touches up his ‘development’ into a zombie-fighting machine, so to speak.

I like the ending they went with because it was funner. Much like the alternate ending to Idle Hands, the alternate was a bit darker and more cynical than the rest of the movie so it would’ve been a little off-putting. But that’s just my $0.02.

I’ve seen both and prefer the SMart ending. Funnier, more character. And he gets the girl. And gets to fire a few dozen times with rifle.

I like the original ending. Except…

WTF is a Deadite doing in S-Mart? He won, right? Wasn’t that the point. Which made me realize:

  1. His hand was still running around the cabin last we saw it.

  2. The tape of the book being read is still at the cabin.

  3. There are bodies still in usable condition at the cabin.

All the elements are in place for a sequel… But I hear Bruce wasn’t interested. Now he’s Jack of All Trade. ::rolleyes:: Yeah, that’s a lot deeper than Ash.

Ask, and you shall be answered.

Actually, last we saw it, it was running around the walls, being shot at with a shotgun. After a particularly lucky shot, it (presumably it was the hand), started shooting out gallons of blood. Sure a human hand doesn’t (normally) hold that much blood, but wooden walls don’t either. I say he got it.

Bodies in the cabin or no, of course there’s room for a sequel. He killed a deadite in the store, yes? They’re definitely still around.

In case anyone’s interested, this ending can be d/l from http://www.diabolical-dominion.com

…and in case anyone’s interested there probably will not be a sequel for quite some time. I spend a lot of time in/around movie sites, and Sam Raimi and Bruce have decided that if they DO do a four-quel, it’ll have to be when Ash is like “60 years old and a big, fat bad-ass from his long bad-ass life…” (parahrased from Raimi)

oh well,
broccoli!

Has anyone seen maniac cop with Bruce Campbell… Whew…stinky!
You have to expect that from a movie whose slogan was;
“You have the right to remain silent… FOREVER!”
