"Asian Girlz" by Day Above Ground: is this a joke?

Well, look at that. I’ve been surfing the web since the Mosaic days and never knew you can highlight and right click to open an un-hyperlinked URL. That does help for non-mobile/non-tablet devices. What gets me most is when someone breaks up the URL with multiple spaces (one is enough if you’re going to do it that way), or makes me replace letters in the URL, or stuff like that.

Mute the sound and the video is much improved.

Someone should make a song about half-Japanese girls.

I think the people who think it’s a joke or some highbrow satire are giving a very dumb band far too much credit. I think they are a bunch of assholes, start to finish.

  • Asian girl, but not the right kind.

It can be a joke song without it being satire. It can also be a joke song full of malicious assholeness.

More like lowbrow satire, I’d say. But it’s so transparently a joke, no matter how offensive.

The lyrics were a bit lame and the music sucked but otherwise funny.

I spent the first minute or so trying to figure out if this was real or something from a Funny or Die or College Humor/Key of Awesome knockoff.

I am surprised if anyone does not understand this is a joke. The question isn’t whether it’s a joke. The question is, what is the joke.

A white man calls his white friend who is dating a black girl a nigger-lover, a jocular grin on his face. What is the joke?

It’s a trolling joke, an incredibly unoriginal, and unfunny one.

Yeah, right. We’re not going to come up with your punchlines for you.

I’m having a hard time reading between the lines but I think this guy thinks the video is racist.

Curses!

I took the trouble of checking out some of their other songs and interviews. These guys are not masters of subtle wit. You’re more likely to find hidden depths in a Justin Bieber song.
