I should add Sheriff Joe Arpaio to the list. It seems he’s losing his re-election race badly. He might have been a very decent lawman once, but he’s long since fallen into the sewer.
A lot of the congressional and senate races above interest me, but I’m less vested in them because I have no control. Neither of my senators are up for re-election and my congresswoman has no real opposition.
The race I’m really holding my breath for is, as trivial as it may seem, my local representative to the state assembly. The GOP currently holds a super-majority of the Tennessee assembly, so you can imagine what their priority has been: flood the state with guns, take any mention of Islam out of our textbooks, make the Bible the official state book, prohibit cities from expanding non-discrimination statutes, shut down abortion clinics, etc. So any moderate voice we can get in there is a big win.
Susan Lynne is my current rep. She is best known for:
being a puppet of charter school organizations and fighting for expansion of school vouchers;
sponsoring the TN “Bathroom bill” forcing transgendered students to use the bathroom of their birth sex;
being admonished by the assembly for distributing anti-Muslim propaganda to state congressional mailboxes;
repeatedly voting down equal pay for women legislation
So I’ve been campaigning and canvassing for her Democratic opponent, Trisha Farmer, who is running for elected office for the first time. We’ve had a tremendous influx of registered voters since 2012 in this district, and they skew toward being younger and more educated. The feedback we’ve gotten while canvassing and phone banking has been encouraging. Farmer also got the endorsement of the Tennessean, which is a pretty conservative paper. So I’m holding my breath…
I don’t like to root against people, but even Rubio seems pretty indifferent to Rubio being in the Senate. So his losing would not only make me happy, but seems like he’d be kinda ok with it to.
Rubio. Mainly because it boggles my mind that a guy can spend the presidential primary saying how worthless his senate job is and then everyone says “Hey, let’s make him our senator again!”. His loss would benefit my sanity.
I voted for Tammy Duckworth, so I’d like to see Russell Kirk lose. But that Looks very likely. I’d like to see John McCain go down, first for supporting Voldemort, but mainly for the piss-poor judgment he showed in choosing Palin.
Roy Blunt needs to go. Ineffective except when he’s promoting his family’s lobbying business, and I think every term he’s probably gotten more and more corrupt. We’ve been absolutely inundated locally with mailers and robocalls desperately trying to link his challenger to Obama and Clinton, so seems like there’s a good chance he’ll be going down.
Oh god please yes. In his desperation to escape the Trumptanic he’s apparently even using photos of Obama to tout his ‘bipartisanship.’ Really :dubious:?
Gohmert would be an embarrassment to slime mold. His was the first name that came to mind when I read the thread title, though there are plenty of others listed here that I’d love to see kicked to the curb. (Issa and Arpaio are pretty far up my personal list, too.)
I just moved back to Arizona (just outside Phoenix) and haven’t met many of my new neighbors yet, but I heard from someone else that Sheriff Joe lives on our street :eek:! Hopefully that person was mistaken, but at least I’ve confirmed that he does not live on either side of me or directly across the street.
I remember when I lived in Tucson back in the 90’s I always thought Arpaio was a jackass, but at least I didn’t live in his county. Now…
A couple of years ago my wife and I got passes to the House and Senate chambers. Not only did we have to wade through a Tea Party rally to get to the Capitol, but once we got to the house there was exactly one representative there (although I suppose someone had to be presiding - maybe he/she was asleep below their desk) - Louie Gohmert, up at the podium, ranting to an empty House chamber (and I assume C-SPAN) about Benghazi…
