I thought I would join the crowd and make an ask me thread. So fire away.
Are you nice like my baristas or do you loathe people like I do? Do you drink coffee/espresso and if so, what is your drink?
Do you ever think “What an asshole” when someone orders some complicated “half this, half that, with a splash of the other, and exactly 1.5 x the nomral amount of foam” sort of beverage?
If I ask for a “large” coffee, are you going to give me a hard time?
There are a few people I loathe but we are all nice. In fact my Starbucks is #2 in the region as far as customor satisfaction goes. If you have noticed those little review reciepts that have been printing out. Yes I do drink coffee. Usually while I am working we will just pull shots amd take it like a shot of vodka then follow with a red bull chaser. While i am not working I usually get a Passion Tea.
Oh yes no doubt, espically if we know they cannot taste the difference. The worst drink I ever made was a 6 shot ice venti caramel macchiato. The person wanted me to put a “splash” of heavy creme between each shot and put about 1/8th of an inch of caramel on top…She actually watched me put it on. And the first thing she did when i gave it to her is stir it up :smack: . Why did you want them seaperated…?
Two questions. First, is a male barista a baristo?
Second, is there some kind of official or unofficial corporate policy that there must be a hot chick on duty at all times? At our local Starbucks, they have a stable of attractive young women that they rotate through, and it seems to be their policy that one of them must be on duty at all times.
Is Starbuck’s really as good a place to work as I hear? I’ve always heard their benefits are awesome and a wonderful place to get through college.
Oh ye gods, I am sure I would have said something. This is why I prefer phone work
I will note that I can tell which one of my baristas has made my drink (venti iced americano with 3 pumps mocha in a tall cup) by how it tastes. There is a subtle difference in taste based on whether the water is added prior to the espresso as opposed to after, but since it is stirred before I get it (and hell, I am really not that picky) I cannot imagine putting all those modifiers on anything only to stir it right in front of the barista! I hope she gains 60 lbs and can’t figure out why – and you get to laugh as you pour those shots of heavy cream.
Another question – are the tips really worth a shit in your check? I always try to make sure I toss whatever change I have (which usually isn’t much, I don’t often carry cash) into the tip jar, because I like my baristas, but I wonder if it really adds up to shite.
Why the hell do some locations in my city have the Toasted Marshmallow flavoring on their seasonal menu and other locations do not? Driving me nuts when I need my Toasted Marshmallow Mocha fix!!!
MeanJoe
Do you, in fact, put crack in your peppermint mochas?
No not really. I know what you mean. if you ask for a small hot chocolate i might ask you if its for your kid because we also have “short” sizes which is below tall as well as we wont make it as hot. Or if you are mexican and ask for a “grande” coffee i will ask if you want the large or medium because grande is spanish doenst mean the same size.
First part no, Secodnly no not really. My starbucks doesnt have what i would consider to be real hot women working. Of course having attractive people cannot hurt.
Yes it is. You get full benefits at 20 hours a week. As well as vacation time. You get a raise every 6 months. You dont make as much money as people might make it sound but if you factor in tips you get which is divided by the number of hours you work its about $1.50 more an hour. You also get free drinks while you are working or always depending on who is working As well as 30% off all items in the store/
I have a gift card from two years ago that I never got around to using. Has it expired?
It acutally does. We actually get our tips in cash once a week. They add all the money together and hand it out by the number of hours worked. More hours you work more money you get. They are taxed on our check but getting some cash in the middle of a week is always a good thing. It saves me from having ever to with drawl cash from an item for small petty buys.
Its possible those stores are trying it out to see how it sells. Thats just how they tested out the warming breakfast sandwhiches which are now becomeing a standard in all stores that can handle an oven.
No we dont, thats the extra love you are tasting in each one.
It should be but it also might be woth a little more. Some people actually collect those things. I saw a starbucks card on eBay which had a picture of the first starbucks on it and was one of the first ones released for 300 bucks. And it was an empty card to.
Have you the option of producing a “short pull” or “ristretto”? When I go to a Starbucks I see little cartoon icons on the machines representing one shot, two shots, etc. I wondered if this precluded being able to shorten the length of the pull or not.
Do you work part-time or full? How many of your co-workers work there as a primary job?
In the recent Pit thread about Starbucks’ Ethos Water, the following statement was made:
This is a sentiment I see often brought out against Starbucks and its employees, but as a Starbucks worker, I would wonder what you have to say about that (particularly the last part).
Have you ever given regular to someone who ordered decaf (on purpose or by accident)?
Grande means large in spanish. What does it mean in starbucks?
16 ounces. It’s between “Tall” and “Venti,” so it’s basically a medium.
Yes that is exactly why we have those because it’s A LOT quicker. The only bad thing is you cannot choose which kind of beans you want for your drink. Which VERY few people ask for. On the machine we use the buttons are from left to right: Pull One Shot, Pull Two Shots, Pull One Decafe, and Pull Two Decafe. Cancel/Continue (If we pull a shot with no beans in it will tell us), Rinse, Hot water, Pull a Half Cafe Shot, Manual Steam (it will steam forever), and Auto Steam (will stop around 170 degrees)
I work part time as my 2nd job just to make ends meat. Many people have it as there “primary job” even though they don’t work much more hours then me.
I will be the first to admit Starbucks is the fast food of coffee. While many of the employees there do not have a passion for espresso drinks like workers at a small coffee shop would Starbucks is in fact a business who wants to make a profit. Yes our prices are high but many people do not realize that we actually are very high quality. Regardless of how the worker feels about the drink our beans are in fact high quality. There are people work for starbucks whose actual job it is to go out to the fields and make sure the workers are being treated fairly and little kids are not growing the beans. One of the ideas that starbucks likes is they want consistency. They want every store to be the same and want people to be able to walk in a random store and know where everything is and feel at home. That kind of organization is not easy, or cheap
