Ask the advanced driving instructor...

I am a police advanced driving instructor - any questions about advanced driving, or what I do? I’m also happy to advise on driving in general: and I’ve noticed that many Americans have no idea how to use a manual box properly; recently in another forum I participate in I read that many depress the clutch when cornering! I’ve also noticed you coasting regularly.

I should add a couple of things:

I am a British advanced driving instructor, so bear in mind that my left/right might be your right/left.

In America, I believe ‘advanced driving’ is usually known as ‘defensive driving’, although car control is an important part of this. The foundation of almost all advanced driving in the UK is the system of car control, detailed in “Roadcraft”, the police advanced drivers manual and the textbook for ROADA and the IAM, our two primary advanced driving associations. (HPC is different, and I’m not familiar with DIA unfortunately).

I’m not going to reveal any information that might identify me - I may or may not go into ‘specialised’ police driving techniques.

I’m not very eloquent and on occasion write gibberish; if you spot any, call me on it and I’ll clarify!

I’ll get you started: Welcome to the SDMB.

Can you describe the best technique to get out of a skid on ice or a slick road?
Can you do so for both Manual and Automatic Transmissions?

Thank you,
Jim

The OP got banned already? That lasted shorter than giving a balloon to a porcupine.

I guess he was a sock or returnee, no signs of Trolldom in his 24 posts. I was rather shocked, he seemed nice. It could have been an interesting thread.

Jim

Yeah, why was this guy banned?

I emailed **TubaDiva ** and she responded very quickly and did not say I had to keep it to myself, so I hope I am not doing anything wrong.
Thank you for the quick response again, TubaDiva. Very kind.

**TubaDiva ** indicated they determined the Op was a sock.

If the Op is not a sock, hopefully he contacts the Admins and finds a way to straighten it out.

Jim {again, I hope I did nothing wrong here}

Someone fight my ignorance and educate me: what is “a sock” in this context?

An** Alias ** might be great as a tv show, but an alias here is forbidden. I think one of the terms used here is 'sock puppet". I’d rather call the act a Mr. Hand.

Much as Jali said, a Sock is a user profile of either an existing user or banned user. This is not allowed on the SDMB. Socks can be used to stir up crap, support the primary user profile in a debate or just to allow a bannee a way to sneak back.
