Ask the BLACK WOMAN!!!!! nothing is too ignorant......i hope.......

I live in New York. Stereotypes exist to pigeonhole people who would rather not do the work to get to know people as individuals.

I strive to judge people not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. This is just my opinion.

I second this question.
Do black people “act black”? Do white people “act white”? What would you consider “black” actions to be? Or “white” actions?

Do you feel that the male/female dynamic is different amoung black couples than it is amoung white people?

Do you have many white friends?

When you go to white people’s houses do you find the temperature lower than in black people’s?

Are you or a large number of your friends and family lactose intolerant?

How do you feel about Clarence Thomas and why?

Which black leader do you have the most respect for and why?

This is funny. In a sad, stereotypical, kind of way.

Biggirl lives about seven blocks away from me, here in Brooklyn.

Here in Brooklyn, we have learned to look beyond superficial differences like skin color, to see the True Heart that Lies Beyond. We live in a veritible paradise of human understanding and harmony. African, Asian, European, South American, even those of Australian descent, work, dance, and play together. From Brooklyn Heights to Brownsville, the streets ring with our happy laughter.

Come visit beautiful Brooklyn…stroll the windswept Promenade…dine in our distinguished restaurants…shop in our charming boutiques…buy a tee shirt.

Brooklyn…truly the garden spot of the western tip of Long Island.

Ike, as a Junior League member, I’m going to have to fine you for appropriating the name.

Vivian: As a black woman, to what do you attribute the healthier body images that young black woman have (as compared to their white counterparts). I’ve read they have a lower incidence of eating disorders and are less hung up on unattaainable standards of beauty, and I know some sociologists and psychologists are desperate to figure out why black youth don’t have that particular neurosis. I hope no one thinks I’m stereotyping–I realize I am generalizing, but I know the statistical differences have been documented. Young black women are happier with their bodies than young white women are.

Dear Black Woman:

Once I go black, will I ever go back?

if you want to see an example, watch any sitcom or movie that has the one black character. for example, i recently saw this trailer in a movie theater. http://www.filmreactor.net/trailer/not_another_teenmovie_poor.mov

so you see, i’m not the only one.

  1. from what i can tell, there is a slight difference. i can’t really describe what it is, but i’ll be sure to answer that at a later date when i can pinpoint exactly what it is.
  2. i have tons of white aquaintances. friends…i tend to chose mine carefully regardless of race, but i do have more black friends than white.
  3. i am lactose intolerant as well. as far as i know, many ethnic people are because dairy is not a staple in our diets. i’m also African (maybe i should start a ‘ask the african’ thread)
  4. Clarence Thomas …not much of an opinion on him partly because i’m Canadian. But ask me about O.J…
  5. I have the most respect for (and most everybody does regardless of race) Nelson Mandela. He put up with a lot of sh*t in his life. to overcome the things aparteid (sp?) and to then become president of the country that held him prisoner is absolutely amazing.

if there is one thing that i want to stop hearing is 'I hope no one thinks I’m stereotyping’
this thread is here so that your questions can be answered. stereotypes come from somewhere, which i think are just exxagerations of actual truths. so don’t be scared to ask what you’ve always been afraid to ask Shaniqua or Kwamee (stereotype right there. those names are NOT actaully African…at least not where i’m from)
I’m actually surprised at the quality of the questions.

i think it’s because we’ve come to realize that we can’t rid of our round, sensual hips. can’t diet off our supple bums. most of us have bodies that men love. i’ve been assured by many a white guy that they wish their girlfriends’ had an ass/hips/breasts like me. it’s what God gave us. nothing we can do about it, so you might as well love it!

Hey Designated Black Woman!

Feminism…yea or nay?

If you’re in a tense situation or arguing politics, etc, where some women (mainly white) and some black people (mainly male) are sort of speaking out “as women” or “as black people”, do you tend to think of yourself as “one of the women”, “one of the black people”, or…

• does it depend entirely on the fine points of the issue and situation, so sometimes it’s one and sometimes it’s another and sometimes neither group identity is relevant? (Seriously, neither one tending to be the more definitive factor for you?)

• is it more like “both” rather than “neither” and you’d feel more comfortable by far speaking as a “black woman” rather than being part of “the women” or “the black people”?
And regarding white men: do you find us twice as clueless compared to black men not getting the ‘woman’ thing or white women not getting the ‘black’ thing?

All right, I’LL ask you about OJ…

BTW, I still don’t get the act black/act white crap.

good question. i don’t think i’ve ever faced with that situation. But what i do find is that while Black women and White women have some similarities, there are alot of differences culturally. i feel more comfortable speaking as a black woman than as just a woman because of the dual experiences. also, i’ve experienced far more as a black person than as a woman.
what i know for sure, is that what most noticed first is that i’m black then female second (depending on what i’m wearing  ). if someone what to do mock me in some way, they would do some black mock just as if i was a blond, they’d do blond jokes.
Black Men are just as clueless as the rest of their gender. i think that transcends all races

Who’re the better lovers in bed – black guys, white guys, Asian guys, Hispanic guys, or other?

(Doesn’t have to be from direct experience; secondhand accounts from friends are okay too. )

ahhh…O.J.
i don’t even think i want to answer that question. but i am going to say (MY OPINION) i’m surprised he got away with killing two white people. but leave it to white people to stick it to him financially.

the black/white thing is hard to describe because you’re on the outside of the whole thing. say for example, Eminem…ever see any white guys prancing around with him in his videos? what about Seal? never seen a single black female in his videos. they’re the best examples i can come up with.

From what my friends and i concurr, black guys seem to know how to hit the ‘spot’. they seem to have an awesome understanding of the female body. BUT, any male can gain this knowledge through communication. physical and non physical. Let’s just say, you don’t see ‘How to get your guy to drive you crazy’ or ‘how to drive him wild in bed’ on the cover of any black magazines…no word of a lie.

On an episode of MAD TV they were doing a spoof of Family Feud, and the question was “What’s the worst thing perpetrated on black people by white people?” (or something), and the #1 answer they gave was “Wayne Brady.” I didn’t get it. Are they talking about his show? 'Cause it wasn’t that great a show. But he’s awesome on “Who’s Line is it Anyway.” But then, I’m white.

Is this more of the Bill Cosby thing? Black people “acting too white”?

VIVIAN –

I appreciate the thread, and I’m not trying to be aggressive, but my question is how you can post this and claim you’re not at least a teensy bit racist yourself. I mean, ask youself how you’d feel if someone said to you “leave it to black people to [do something negative].”

My boss is a black woman named Vivian.

If you are my boss, do you mind that I spend part of my downtime posting to the SDMB?

You must have overlooked my question about the temperatuure difference in white people’s houses versus black people’s so I will bring it up again. have you noticed one and if so what do you attribute it too?
