There ya go! I knew I was wrong when I wrote it. At least it was a big chunka something shiny.
Kinda leads me to ask…how did whoever did the inscription, do it without touching the gem?

I’ll verify that Marko and Xavier were in Korea, but darned if I have the proof.
Oh, and don’t forget that What If…? issue where Xavier got the Juggernaut’s powers instead. One of my favorites.
IIRC their final fate was discussed in the same Ambush Bug issue that dealt with the ends of such luminaries as Ace the Bat Hound, Streaky the super cat, and Quisp.
I’m shocked at this lapse, considering that you’ve previously cited that issue.
Ack! Guilty as charged Doc. I had completely forgotten the Sugar and Spike sequence. I really meant to re-read that issue after my last cite, too. I guess I know what I need to do now.
OK, I’ve now read the issue in question. While Ambush Bug #3 contains info on Quisp, Itty, Mopee, Cyril, the Glop and Egg Fu, Sugar and Spike are not mentioned.
I do remember them in some issue of Ambush Bug. Clearly I need to do more research.
Trion, Sugar and Spike were in the Ambush Bug Christmas Stocking Special #1, as I recall. The one with the roving pack of vampire dolls. I believe thay also had a one-panel appearance in CRISIS.
Bring back the BUG!!
Their “appearance” in Crisis was less than being pictured in a panel - they were in a picture in the background of a panel. I have my Official Crisis Index right here…issue 9, page 8, panel 6.
If you’re a Sugar and Spike completist, they also appeared in one of the Byrne issues of Wonder Woman. I don’t recall the issue number off hand, but Cassie (Wonder Girl) had to babysit them. It was just one panel, the last of the issue. But at least it was a real appearance (such as it is).
I love you guys. Thanks.
Actually, in Crisis they were shown watching the news on WGBS, anchored by Clark Kent as he was reporting on the memorial service for Supergirl.
Sugar and Spike also had a cameo somewhere in KINGDOM COME. I remember it was on a TV screen in the “Planet Krypton” restaurant, but I don’t remember if it was in the first issue, or in the epilogue that appeared only in the paperback/hardcover.
So, does anyone else wonder where the Sugar and Spike Archive edition is and why DC hasn’t released it?
Does anyone know the current status on War Machine aka Jim Rhodes? At least I think it was Jim Rhodes. I remember he lost the black War Machine armor and then got an alien suit of armor. What happened to that alien armor? Does he still have it?
Be patient. They haven’t even gotten to the Jerry Lewis Comics Archive edition yet.
photopat:
Close, but not quite. Bernie the Brain was watching that TV program, and framed pictures of Sugar and Spike can be seen on a nearby end table.
I didn’t write the above post from memory. I looked at the issue itself.
And where’s Hastur? He’s our resident Wonder Woman expert, isn’t he? He can tell us the exact issue with the Sugar and Spike appearance, no doubt.
Chaim Mattis Keller
Okay, I guess I just remembered it wrong. Now, who’s Bernie the Brain?
Bernie the Brain is a juvenile genius who spiced up Sugar and Spiked later stories with invention-based gags. Sort of a Jimmy Neutron type.
He was introduced in Sugar & Spike # 72.

IIRC, the alien War Machine armor was destroyed in Tales of the Marvel Universe, a post “Onslaught” special that wrapped up several old storylines and introduced the Thunderbolts and the defunct Kazar comic.
Ah, Kazar. I never would have thought that would be a good series, but Mark Waid did it so well. Even made Kazar vs. Thanos believable.
Well, you know what I mean.
Do any of you guys know of an on-line source where you can read old comics or at least get plot summaries?
I ask this because during my youth I managed to read only 1/2 of a certain Spider-Man story arc and I’m curious about what happened in the other half.
I can never find any good comic sites. Even Wizard’s site sucks. Actually I hear they just updated it so maybe it’s better. Regardless, the only place I’ve seen to read online mainstream comics is Marvel.com,but there’s nothing really old there.
What arc are you referring to? Maybe I can help.
