Interesting thing I read, patsy cline aka hellcat appeared in those comics…
Besides Hellcat, does that comic being in continuity change NYTHING?
OK, did Marvel rip off “The Young Ones” People’s Poet bit, or was the Young One’s bit a ripoff of “Street Poet Ray”?
I just bought a reprint collection of THE BALLAD OF HALO JONES at Borders. Are there more 2000 AD collections planned? Do you think this will stay in print for a while? Is this the only Halo Jones adventure, or are there more?
On nationstates.net, I named my country “The Free Republic of Ylum.” Who can tell me where I got that name?
In WATCHMEN, was Ozymandis justified in his plot? Was Dr. Manhatten justifed in vaping Rorschach?
Not really per se, he did have a reason but not worthy of him killing a few million new yorkers in my opinion…
Re: 2000 ad collections, they’re a fairly small company, so they’ll probably have only a couple thou printed, i dunno about other collections.
LoN: The Free Republic of Ylum comes from Nexus, right?
Patsy Cline was Hellcat? That’s Crazy! While Hellcat was out Walking After Midnight seeking to cause some evildoers nefarious plot to Fall To Pieces, Patsy Cline was safe in Nashville singing in the Grand Old Opry.
I believe you mean Patsy Walker.
heh.
Why did Thriller, the DC series from the mid-'80s, implode halfway through? I know that the original writer quit and the artist followed shortly thereafter, but what’s the scoop?
I loved that book through the first 6 or so issues. Ironically, I managed to read every issue but #11, which was double-sized and contained the climax of the series. Anyone want to spoil the series for me?
Threads like this are a good control for my burgeoning ego. Whenever I start to think I know a lot about comics, I come across a thread like this and realize I really know nothing. Nothing, do you hear?
So, Captain America’s mighty shield. Is it or is it not made of adamantium? When I was still seriously into comics (that would be the mid-90’s or so), it seemed to be a fact pretty much taken for granted by everybody that Cap’s shield was a rare “adamantium-vibranium alloy.” More recently (after I gave up on comics as too expensive a hobby), I’ve occasionally heard people say, “Don’t be ridiculous. Adamantium wasn’t invented until Avengers #8 (or somewhere therabouts), and we know Cap had his shield long before then.”
So, what’s the scoop? Did I just dream up that adamantium-vibranium thing? Have they retconned it? Are my informants full of it? I feel sadly inadequate, not having a full arsenal of Cap facts at my command.
So Dr. Doom is really Darth Vader?
(Grin, Duck, Run)
The shield was vibranium. It might’ve been retconned so it was a admantium/vibranium mix.
From a cap site-
Actually Wolverine wins in the smelling ability category. In Infinity War #2 (I think) a fake Reed Richards summons a boatload of heroes to the FF’s headquarters with the intention of blowing up a bomb killing them all. Daredevil is there and doesn’t notice anything wrong, but Wolverine shows up late and can smell that RR is a fake. Daredevil is shocked that Wolverine’s sense of smell is so much better than his.
Transformers has a few other Marvel links, actually. First, in the comic book, the Dinobots were created by landing in the Savage Land.
Yes, this was waved out of continuity without actually being changed.
Second, Circuit Breaker showed briefly in Secret Wars II. And, of course, there’s Death’s Head II (Yessss?), who is from Transformers UK, and had a crossover with Dr. Who as well.
Don’t forget, Godzilla is in Marvel continuity, as long as Red Ronin shows up every so often.
Yeah, but the bastards slung him all the way back to Devil Dinosaur’s time, and stranded him there, didn’t they?
(I don’t care how bloody strong Ben Grimm is, he can’t wrestle Godzilla into a time machine.)
Anyone know if Dr. Sardonicus appeared anywhere previously to the first story arc of the Marvel Godzilla series? I could have sworn I’d seen him in some other book, but I can never figure out what it might have been.
Nexus, right?
(And if it was NEXUS, you have excellent taste! )
A) Patsy Walker
B) Her hubby “Buzz” became a (really lame) super-villian
C) She and Hedy showed up at Reed and Sue’s wedding, so they’ve been in continuity since FF Annual #3, circa 1964 or so.

When did the “Young Ones” appear? “Street Poet Ray” was around late '89 through early '91 or so.

I think the writer and artist leaving half-way through spoiled it pretty well as it is.
However, I have a fuzzy recollection from somewhere (an interview in AMAZING HEROES at the time, maybe?) that there was some silliness with DC and the creators about how long THRILLER would last (8 issues, 12 issues, a continuing series?). I don’t remember who wanted the series to run how long though and I could easily be conflating it with something else.

Ok, back when I was young and stupid, I sort of inherited a giant box full of old comic books. This was the mid 80’s, and I had a big ol’ box full of 5c and 10c comic books.
Dr. Who comics.
Numerous WWII comics (Jeb Stuart and his Ghost Tank being my fav).
Several Western comics. I liked me some Kid Colt.
Lots and lots of the Dot/Richie Rich/Casper comics.
Metal Men, a whole bunch of them.
And numerous others.
I read them until they fell apart, then read the pieces. All of them were destroyed by my young foolish reading. Did I destroy a fortune? Most of these were in really good shape…
But whateve happened to The Metal Men? I love them!
