When you stop by again, I have another Q for you
Are their any athiest soldiers floating around?
Are the military sunday services packed?
Does their seem to be a higher percentage of those that believe in God after being shot at?
Do you have any soldiers there that are Muslim and actively practice?
Basically I am just looking for a hook into the religious scene down yonder
Alterego:
Actually I am an atheist soldier, and many of us are. There are services for those who wish to attend every Sunday. Most of them are non-dominational services.
I haven’t noticed an increase in the belief of God after being shot at; however, this kind of discussion doesn’t arise too often. I’ll start asking around though, makes me kind of curious.
I have met one actively practicing Muslim soldier. We also have a practicing Muslim Chaplain. He’s an interesting guy.
As I have noticed, the church services are not too populated. I was a bit surprised about this, myself.
I would also like to see your pictures.
I don’t have any questions right now, but thank you so much for being there.
Great thread, thanks for all the interesting information.
I have a pal in the 10th MTN division I often send care packages to, is there anything that you or your fellows need that we Dopers could help with? Many of us have contributed to different drives, but it’s great actually shopping with a purpose instead of a generic feeling. Books, socks and underwear, candy, anything?
Queen Tonya, and anyone else wishing to send a care package:
I am actually leaving the Theater of Operations in a week; however, I will have commrades in arms here until at least March, so if you are interested in sending anything, i’m not soliciting at all, just drop me an email and I will get back to you. I thank every one of you for your support.
Alright everyone that wanted to see pics. I created a horribly crude website at geocities. I shall update every other day while I’m still here. When I get home, I will actually put some effort into this.
Here ya go
My extremely crude pictures page
I like your pictures, Dryfreeze. Thanks so much for sharing them. I look forward to seeing more. Keep yourself safe and have a good New Year.
I’ve been following this thread and want to chime in thanks for being over there. Great pics, keep 'em coming. Have a Happy (and safe) New year.
P.S. If you’re the guy with glasses and rosy cheeks in the pictures, you are too cute!
Thanks for posting those Dryfreeze. I’ll have to try early tomorrow, the website says it has “exceeded its allocated data transfer”
Ganuaile:
LOL Thanks, thats me for sure.
As for the exceeding data transfer error, geocities doesn’t like my page =(. Anyone know any good free picture hosting sites or something along that line? I have a ton of pictures here.
Thank ya.
I’ve got a crappy little website on MSN Groups that I use just for pictures. I’ve never had any problems with it.
Dryfreeze, I finally got it to work
The pictures of the guys in hats and around Santa toting guns cracked me up
liirogue:
We thought it would make the perfect photo op.
Dryfreeze-
Thanks so much for posting the pictures. You might note that some of those pictures are VERY large files, though, and will need a sandwich breack for those on dial-up connections. If you could reduce the file size with some kind of photo editor and replace them, it might help those broadband-deficient Dopers.
Oh, which person are you in the pictures?
Cardinal:
Yea, i noticed that, I thought I went through and posted only the resized ones. I am sorry. When I go back to edit the page I’ll fix that. Anway, I am PFC Deckard, the guy with glasses.
Hey, Dryfreeze, it’s been 2004 there for about half a day already, right? How was it? We heard about that restaurant blast in Baghdad (bastards) but otherwise it seems to have been nice and quiet. Are the Iraqis on the Western calendar enough to have any NYE things of their own? Did they let you have any booze?
Thanks and Happy New Year!!
Mehitabel:
Yep, we are 8 hours ahead of Indianapolis. New years was just another day here. We spent it much like we spent the other holidays over here, sitting here in the office. Not much enemy activity last night. That was good.
The Iraqis here did not have an celebrations but all of the ones working for us wanted today off, funny thing about that is the fact the Muslims wanted Christmas day off and Christmas eve as well.
It is illegal, via General Order One, to drink alcohol in Iraq.
Well, My time has come, this will be last post to the SMDB from Iraq. Yes, I am excited!! Well that’s that folks. I have finished my mission.
Glad you are going home, Dryfreeze! Check back in once you get home. I’ve got some more questions for you!
