There was also an Obama rally today a couple of towns over from mine (Leesburg, VA, in Northern Virginia). I thought about going, but I am sure it was a mad house, since it’s a small town, and the rally was at a local park, with limited parking. I guess I was just too lazy to deal with the crowds! But it would have been fun…
I wonder, with people gathering many hours before the event, and parking and traffic crazy, how do they get the candidate through the crowds and to the state??
p.s. In 1996, I got to shake President Clinton’s hand at a rally in West Virginia! I was there with my college chapter of the Young Democrats. I remember his hand being really soft.
Fellow Richmonder here- Yeah the anti abortion people are pretty visible in our fair city, unfortunately. I work downtown so I see them on street corners once in a while (usually on nice summer days). One time they had the pictures on posters and I said to the guy, “that looks delicious, what restaurant are you advertising?”. He just stood there dubmfounded but as I walked away he started screaming something about Jebus. shrug
Given the number of people like that and the “south will rise again” crazies, it’s pretty amazing Obama is leading VA. I was sorry I missed the rally, a couple of my coworkers walked up to it but they said the line was around the block and not moving so they didn’t stay. The local news said there were roughly an additional 7000 people outside.
