Clubs like that or E dressed up as a Revolucionaria? She’s not having a hen party any time soon, sorry, her husband wouldn’t like it. Something similar during a stag/hen/birthday party, yes, you may run into it. In big places like those, the SCs normally are separated by gender and there’s more than one show in town, so seeing the hen and stag party converge is less likely. The two parties would usually arrange beforehand whether they’re going to converge or not; in our case the combination of “smallish town” and of the custom of “running the bars” (go to a bar, have one drink, go to another…) mean that the only way the two parties can avoid each other is if one goes out of town or if one person from each group is charged with tracking the other party’s location (aren’t cellphones lovely?).
How do you feel about trendy housewives taking poledancing aerobics classes?
TD’s West is pretty lame. It’s like the ghetto sister to TD’s East. At the time, TD’s was considered “the” club in Tucson in terms of nicest/classiest/best dancers etc.
My chiming in on the tipping thing: I always felt that I was justified in tipping out 10% of my stage tips + minimum table dance tips. When I danced in Tucson, a table dance was $5 (yes, $5. That’s why some of us would sometimes go to Texas for a few weeks at a time). And most guys actually only paid $5. However there were times you’d get a guy who gave you $20 or even $100. The most I ever got for one table dance was about $135. Anyway, I don’t see any reason that I should tip 10% of the extra that I got for doing my job damned well. So if I did 20 table dances in a shift, I’d tip out 10% of $100 (just to use nice round numbers) plus 10% of whatever stage tips I got (not usually much–the guys in that club weren’t big on tipping at the stage for some reason.)
Take into consideration though, that there were nights when I paid to work. Some horrible Sunday evenings when there were like 10 customers all freaking night, and the dancers outnumbered the customers, and I had to pay for a cab to get to and from work, and I had to pay the shift fee… and I didn’t get enough in tips to even break even (I would still tip out on what little tips I made.)
RE: Tipping
I’m going to address this one more time and that is it. I have already stated that I tip double or more what most of the girls in my club tip. I don’t think the dj deserves to make more than the dancers, and yes, that’s an opinion. If we have 20 girls on shift (and we’ll have up to 30 some nights) and all of us give him $40 at the end of the night, he’s made $800 while we have made $360. No way is that fair.
I bust my ass to make what I make in a night. I’m there for 8-9 hours most of the time. The dj plays songs, he does very little other than that to “set the mood.” Some of them are lucky they get tipped at all because they suck. Just because they are doing their relatively simple job (in which they don’t break a sweat) doesn’t mean I should tip them a huge cut of my money.
I will continue to tip as I see fit. My club suggests the 10% and 5% thing, it is not a rule.
And I never said that bouncers are there for my safety or anything of the sort. My club doesn’t even have ONE bouncer. We have a few guys who man the door and parking lots, but they do not serve in a bouncer capacity. They are employees of the club and get paid by the club. I do tip them when they walk me to my car (which is almost ridiculous because they aren’t big, strong guys at all), but other than that, I’m going to let the club take care of them.
What everyone who is critical of the tipping procedure forgets is that without dancers NO ONE would make any mony. That is why we need to be treated with respect by the club and by anyone else who works there. The dj could be replaced with a juke box, I’ve seen it done. The bar staff, again, gets tipped by customers.
In the dancer community, this topic is the subject of much debate, but most of the opinions fall with mine. Tip well, but there’s no need to be ridiculous about the whole thing. And I’ll repeat, I am often thanked and told by the dj’s that I tip more than almost any other girl. IMO, that means they think I’m tipping appropriately.
And lastly, I don’t want to see this thread devolve into a debate about tipping and all of that other crap. If people want to argue about that, please make a Pit thread. Thank you.
I honestly couldn’t care less. My job isn’t being threatened by it, so it doesn’t affect me in the least.
Have you ever had a female customer decide to take off her clothes at the table? Would the club stop a customer from sitting topless?
Is this a pretty common thing among women who do this kind of work? Some kind of abuse in their pasts?
It seems to be a pretty common thing among women, period.
No moreso than in the general population. I said that because it is a popular stripper stereotype, you know, we were all molested as children and we are druggie whores as a result of it. Oh, and we’re stupid, I forgot that one.
I’ve seen them start dancing for their bf or whoever and start stripping a bit, but I can’t say I’ve seen one get down to business. And yes, I think the club would stop a custie from doing it, but it wouldn’t suprise me if they let her keep 'em out for a bit before saying something. They are, after all, men.
When do you need them to walk you to the car? Have you been followed outside or is it just if you get freaked out by some guy?
Have you ever read Candy Girl by Diablo Cody? The book is her memoir of working as a stripper in Minneapolis.
Despite her rollicking appearance on Letterman the book makes stripping seem awfully unappealing.
Has working as a stripper given you more confidence about your looks and general attractiveness then you had before you started?
I can’t speak for Indygrrl but it did wonders for my confidence about my looks and just my confidence in general.
(I can’t believe I’m asking this, but here goes…)
Have you ever accidentally, uhhh, farted in someone’s face? Do you have to take what you eat during the day into consideration on the nights that you will be dancing?
Is it hard to keep dancing if you suddenly need a bathroom break? What do you do in situations like this?
How do you deal with periods? How long does being on your period keep you out of work?
At what age do most strippers leave the business? How old is the oldest stripper you’ve seen or known of?
I assume cameras are prohibited inside the club, but have you ever caught guys snapping pictures, only to be ejected by the bouncers? With cell phone cameras being so ubiquitous these days, is this a problem?
Do clubs that feature chubby women exist? Some of us guys do like chunky women, you know. Also, can management legally discriminate against people on the basis of their weight or overall looks?
Do you have to report your earnings to management (do they actually look at how much money you are getting), or do you report these earnings directly to the IRS on the honor system? Or do you just let yourself get paid under the table and hope the feds have bigger fish to fry?
what is the most undanceable song you have had to dance to? What about danceable, but just annoying or grating?
It is club policy for every girl to be escorted to her car. You can’t have the girls out there with guys who are coming in and out of the club, it is too dangerous. Obviously, it is up to you to make sure no one is following you, but the club does what they can to keep you safe while you are on the premises.
I vaguely remember hearing about that one, but no I haven’t read it. From what I remember, girls were saying that she only danced about a year and didn’t really know what the hell she was talking about. Hard to say since I haven’t read it.
Again, Strip City, by Lily Burana is as accurate a portrayal of dancing as I’ve ever seen.
Well, when I started I was 20 and I had really never gotten any attention at all from men. I don’t even know how I got that initial confidence to go do it, where that came from I will never know. I seriously didn’t ever think I had a nice body, and absolutely would not have ranked myself as hot or beautiful or anything at all like that. Dancing was a real eye opener for me.
And I’ll say that the reason I look as good as I do now (not trying to brag, seriously) has a lot to do with dancing. It has given me the incentive to keep myself up and look a certain way. It is kind of a screwed up thing though, because I will never feel like I can gain weight or let myself go in any way. I’m very particular about how I look, and I know I wouldn’t be that way if it wasn’t for dancing.
Lol, I have farted on people before, I think every dancer has. But I am generally not a gassy person and I don’t have a problem with it. I never even think about it when considering what to eat that day.
Well, it isn’t as if we are dancing constantly the whole time. There is plenty of time to go to the bathroom as needed. I do hate it when I put off going and I get called to stage. It’s not fun to dance while you have to pee.
Women who work at topless clubs work through their periods. They use tampons. Women who work in nude clubs also use tampons, but they cut the string off reeeeeally short and kind of, um, stick it up in there so it isn’t hanging out. I do not have periods because I had female trouble and had a hysterectomy.
That’s hard to say. Some stop once they finish college (23-25), others continue on into their '30s. In smaller clubs you will see more older women. I would say I’ve seen someone who was 50 dance, but you never know, she could have been a lot younger and just had a hard life. It isn’t terribly common to see women past 40 dancing.
I’ve caught guys trying to take pics with their camera phones, but they turn out like crap since most of those phones don’t have a flash on them. It isn’t something I’ve ever really had a problem with.
Absolutely, there are clubs who have heavier women. Usually it is the smaller, more dive-ish clubs. Most upscale clubs have a certain standard. Women have been fired from my club for gaining weight or for not losing weight after management has suggested it. However, I do work with a couple of girls who definitely qualify as chubby, but they are gorgeous otherwise and the guys love them so management keeps them on.
Yes, they can legally discriminate. I’m not sure what the exact laws are on that. But there are a lot of women who come in for a job and do not get hired. Some people are delusional about the way they look, think American Idol in the initial auditions. You know how all of those people are convinced they can sing? Well, a lot of women are convinced that they look good enough to strip.
No, we don’t report our earnings to management. It is up to us to file taxes and all of that. Some do, some do not.
That nu-metal song that goes something like “Suffocation, no breathing, don’t give a fuck if I cut myself bleeding, losing my sight, losing my mind, wish somebody would tell me I’m fine, nothing is fine, nothing is fine, I’m running and I’m lying…”
I’m sure I mangled those lyrics, but that is how the song goes. I can hear it in my head right now, make it stop!! I HATE IT with a passion. Also, I hate anything by Nickleback because I think their songs are misogynistic and crappy.
As to the first, no I never have, but I’m obsessively paranoid about gas in general and will go to extreme lengths not to fart around anyone. If I thought gas was potentially an issue I’d go into the restroom and do it there, or I’d hold it in until I had an opportunity.
Most girls either cut off the string or tuck it inside, WRT tampons, even at a topless place. Those who don’t run the risk of having the string accidentally dangle out the side of their thong–ewwww. I’ve seen it happen and it’s very embarrassing for the girl. Possibly TMI, but I once nicked myself cutting the string off my tampon. Yes, that hurt as much as you think it did.
