So I bought a new video card, and it comes with a free copy of Assassin’s Creed Unity, Far Cry 4, or The Crew. The Crew is a racing game and I’m not at all interested in that.
AC or FC, then, are the choices. I’ve played previous versions of both, and like them, but don’t love them. Put it this way: I wouldn’t buy either of them for full-price, but when they get down to $5 or $10 I’d probably get them both.
I’ve never finished an AC game. I like the idea of them, and I especially like it that this one is set at least partially in Paris. I tend to not like the fighting style, though it’s not horrible.
FC, same kind of thing. I have finished at least one FC game I’m pretty sure, and I like them well enough. I just picked up FC3, though, and haven’t gotten overly far in that one at all.
So are either one of these particularly better than the other? Anything I should know about them? Which should I pick?!?
In Unity, you climb buildings and stab people, just like the last two games, except without a pirate ship. All while the game pesters you endlessly about the “enhanced” experience (i.e. an app AND a guild group AND real-money temporary boosts.)
In Farcry, you can ride an elephant into battle or bait the (often laughably non-) local wildlife into slaughtering enemy bases.
I’d say go with Farcry.
OTOH, if it comes with the season pass, then you might be able to get both, since Unity’s issues have led them to give away one of their other games to Season Pass holders.
Sell the coupon code to someone else for $20 (ebay, various tech forums), buy some other games you like during the steam sale, then in a year buy the improved versions of those games for $5. I got $50 back from my last purchase of a video card that way.
If you have to choose, Unity is a mess and it sounds like you’d find FC4 more fun anyway based on experiences with previous games in the series. FC4 easily.
Descriptions of other people’s FC4 adventures make it sound like a hoot. I’d be tempted to get it if not for my current Dragon Age: Inquisition commitment.
No one seems to have nice things to say about Unity other than that it looks pretty.
From everything I’ve heard on other forums Farcry IV is a pretty good game, and if someone liked III they’ll probably like IV better. Unity on the other hand appears to be a buggy mess.
