Assisted Living South of The Border

I have come to the point that my husband needs to be placed in a locked facility. The cost I am finding are just more than we have to pay, I have had suggestions of several places just south of the border in Ensenada, Mexico that are American owned and at the low price of only $1700/per month and this cost includes everything so it is defiantly affordable for us, plus it is only 4 hours from me. I was wondering if anyone else had any experience with this or what their thoughts were on this. Thank you.

Welcome to the SDMB, ClaireAlexander.

The General Questions forum is for questions with factual answers. Since this seeks advice and the experiences of others, it is better suited to the IMHO forum. It’s no biggie. I will move the thread for you.

Moving thread from General Questions to In My Humble Opinion.

What is the name of the facility you’ve researched? Do you feel comfortable sharing what kind of care your husband needs?

I can’t find it, but I believe there was another poster questioning the same thing about a year or so ago?

The upswing was that they thought they had found a great place in Mexico - new facility, enough qualified staff, and a decent price.

Considering the dollar does stretch further in some countries, and quality care can be certainly as good or not better than many places here, I don’t see why not.

It is always a difficult matter to look into such places, but I wish you the best of luck and personally think you might indeed find something suitable, for an affordable price. Do your research, and be sure to go there for a personal tour and try to get some feedback from other patients and/or relatives of patients.
