AT&T Triple Pack w/ Internet, DirecTV and DVR

Anyone have this? We’re considering it. Have you been pleased or disappointed, and why?

I switched to it almost a year ago; I was dissatisfied with my Time-Warner Cable service and also looking to cut back on my expenses, so I looked into the alternatives. AT&T had a package deal for phone/DSL/DirecTV service, which was cheaper than what I was currently paying, even after the 12-month introduction discount. I’m paying about $82/month for the phone/DSL and currently $44/month for DirecTV (although that’s due to go up next month when my sign-up discount ends. I have a single DVR, because that’s all I need, and opted not to pay extra for HD service.

I haven’t noticed any difference between the DSL and TWC cable Internet service. I like that the DVR holds 100 hours of shows, as opposed to the 50 hours that TWC had. There have been one or two times when the TV signal got lost during a really bad storm, but I haven’t had to have a serviceperson come out since the initial installation.

Maybe I’m paranoid, but I’ll never let my communications/entertainment be a potential point-source failure. If AT&T screws up, you are done. No internet, no phone, no cable. No amount of savings is worth the risk.

The DirecTV service is satellite, not cable, so the only connection with my phone service is that I get a discount on it because it’s packaged with my AT&T service. And this summer I did have a problem with my phone service, which I only found out about when I tried to make an outgoing call; my DSL connection was unaffected even though it was coming in over my phone line.

That doesn’t make sense. If you use cable everything is wiped out. If you you use AT&T you have the reliability of a telephone plus the entertainment is separate.

We have DirecTV DVR and it’s okay, miles better than having no DVR at all. We’ve been DirecTV customers for a long time and I like DirecTV better than Dish Network or cable.

However, DirecTV DVR SUCKS compared to Tivo. If at all possible, get Tivo instead. DirecTV DVR is cantankerous and much less user friendly.
