At the All-Star Break: How are your early-season predictions looking?

Back in March, jarbabyj started a thread asking for WWAAAAYYY out there baseball predictions for the coming season. Some people got into the “way out there” spirit, while others made some more serious prognostications. Well, we’re at the All-Star Break, so i thought it would be an opportune moment to check out how some of the predictions are faring so far, and to see if anyone wants to add anything in light of what’s been happening in Major League Baseball over the past few months.

Here’s a rundown on a few of the predictions from the earlier thread.

and

Well, at 4-3, and having spent plenty of time on the DL, Wood’s gonna have to have an amazing second half of the season.

He’s looking pretty good right now.

and

and

and

Seems to be something of a pattern here. Unfortunately, the Yankees are leading not only the AL East, but all of Major League Baseball. Fuckers.

and

Wilson’s prediction is looking good here. The Rangers lead the AL West and have the third-best record in the Majors.

And finally, and depressingly:

and

Well, the Birds are currently 11 below .500, and are propping up the AL East, after a dismal first half of the season. Most of the problems are on the mound. The O’s have the fourth best batting average in the Majors for the season (.280 team average), but the third-worst ERA (team ERA of 5.08). They should have left Ponson with the Giants.

Being something of a glutton for punishment, i’m going to predict that Baltimore’s pitchers will start to get it right, and that the hitters will keep hitting, giving the Birds 45 wins out of their last 77 games. This will get them just above .500 for the season, and will restore some measure of respectability.

You missed one of my favorites:

Looking good so far, spooje. Provided that little injury gets cleared up.

Mine aren’t going quite so well, I don’t think. From this thread which consists mostly of me and Elvis nitpicking each other to death.

Oops. Maybe they will.

The above was re: A-Rod. Score for me!

The above is re: Sheffield. Right now he’s hitting .302/.410/.508. Good for a .919 OPS.

Boo-yah! Except I gave Lowe too much credit.

Someone’s been drinking too much National Bohemian.

Eric Milton currently holds a record of 11-2, tied for first place in wins in the NL (with Jason Schmidt). But with an ERA of 4.72, even with that impressive record he’s got a long way to go to be a serious candidate for the Cy.

As for my NLCS prediction, the Phils hold a nervous one-game lead in the NL East, while the Cubs are 7 games back in the NL Central. Still a chance of it happening, if Bowa doesn’t implode and the Cubs’ pitching staff can remain injury-free the rest of the way.

Not if my Cards have anything to say about it. :stuck_out_tongue:

I still can’t believe they’re the best team in the National League.

Me either. I keep waiting for the Cubs to finally stay healthy and the Cards to have half the injury problems the Cubs have faced.

Of course, Don Baylor keeps wasting at bats on Rey Ordonez so if they can make the playoffs it will be a minor miracle.

Don Baylor? Huh? Or do you mean Dusty Baker?

And don’t dismiss Ordonez. He’s hitting a nifty .476 with the Cubs.

Oh wait, that’s his OPS.
