Holy crap! Why not just wear a burqa?!!!11oneone I can’t believe that’s for real!
For the beach, I think there is no age limit for a bikini. For that matter, I don’t think there are any body type restrictions either. Its just the beach, probably the most informal social setting on earth. If a 300 pound lady wants to lie in the sand and tan her belly, then I think everyone else on that beach should keep their comments to themselves.
If this we’re talking about a country club pool or a nicer pool party, then I think a suit should fit well, and its hard to for those of us with a little more jiggle to find a bikini that fits well. If you’re willing to put down the money, it can be possible. Here’s where I got my last bikini top.
It’s the real deal as far as I can tell. Here’s a site that provides access to a bunch of other godly clothiers. http://www.stanosheck.com/Modesty.html
Those are great looking suits. The floral one looked faaabulous on me in my dreams last night.
This 43-year-old says, “So… how’s she doin’?”
Drat. Doesn’t work secondhand.
She is your mom’s age, which means you are around 20-25 or so…
Your friends all be much less judgemental of 50 year old women who look great when you are 50 year old women - whether you look great or not. And you will discover yourself occationally reaching for a dress a little too short or with a little too much cleavage - or even a bikini.
I stopped wearing bikinis in my 20s, because I found them impractical for swimming - top and bottom management not being my thing. I was judgemental of other’s swimwear choices into my mid-30s - when I realized that the person in the swimsuit I admired most were those 200 lb + women doing water aeorbics at the gym - they didn’t look aetheticaly pleasing but - damn - they were there anyway getting exercise. (Granted, I’d rather LOOK at the 22 year old with the perky breasts and tight tummy in the orange bikini - but I’d rather talk to the 50 year old trying to lose 60 lbs on Weight Watchers).
Personally, I like to “dress my age.” Because I’m most comfortable dressing my age. But if you want to be 60 and wear pigtails and a bikini at the beach, its your damn business (and it does make people watching a much more interesting hobby).
Bikini? Wear it at any age. It would be nice if the woman in question had the body to pull it off, but even if not, you’re at the beach - there’s mostly naked people all over the place. One more, regardless of age isn’t going to make a difference.
However, women of a certain age that dress like teenagers for work functions or social functions with their contemporaries tend to look sort of…sad, if you know what I mean.
Going to paraphrase Alice. When it starts looking sad rather than sexy.
But since many of the people that would apply to seem to have a vision impairment.
When it’s holding stuff up rather than in.
Women do seem to worry about offending other women, don’t they? Proper? Where do these rules come from?
My girlfriend’s daughter was traumatized by her fourth grade teacher when the woman insisted that the girl wear a bra because her nipples were discernable. My ex-wife’s mother would pitch a fit when her athletic 35-year-old daughter showed up at a summer picnic in a halter top.
I worked in the middle east where the “rules” were strict but explicit. I guess we’re pretty much the same here except we don’t write it down.
I would much rather have the rules be obvious, stated, and squared away than play some of the guessing games that some social circles play. I’m 24, but when I was 19, I moved into a dorm room with a girl from a small town in SC; her parents gave me a dirty look because I was moving boxes and clothing in 100 degree heat. How was I supposed to know that this was still the 1950s and I was supposed to be covered from knee to elbow and everywhere in between?
I don’t know, Dung Beetle. I’d sure like to see you out of that miniskirt.
What?
In St Maarten recently and I saw women of all ages who looked good in and out of their bikinis.
Consider it gone.
I actually like those slimming ones … and what is wrong with them? Not everybody wants to show an acre of skin. Even when I was 20 and had a serious hot bod I didnt wear bikinis - my swimwear tended to be shorts and a long t shirt.
You know, when I hit about 30, and mellowed a bit, I thought I would hit the one piece style. I bought one or two, and my husband was aghast, said it made me look dowdy, and actually worsened the look of my body, made me look matronly. I wakeboard and waterski a lot, I usually have a couple of tankinis (God bless the maker of the tankini!) for that, but I can still do justice to a bikini. Oh, there might be a little imperfection here and there, but it’s all about owning it. I’m 37. I do agree that there probably will come a day where I will be too old, where it just seems like I’m trying too hard. Although I do think it’s a shame when some women, even in their young 20’s, become moms, and get the mommy haircut, mommy clothes, all of a sudden they’ve aged about 15 years.
I just bought a couple of suits last week, a bikini and a tankini. I am a masochist however, I always go shopping in March or April, when I am deathly pale and have a little winter weight. But I figure if I look ok under those circumstances, I’ll look pretty good come July.
Was glancing at this thread, and for whatever reason happened to remember that we are going to see Helen Thomas speak tonight. Ya know, I’d probably prefer that she wear something with a tad more coverage than a bikini.
I’ll wager I’m gonna be the only schmuck in the auditorium tonight connecting Helen Thomas with bikinis.
Thanks a lot, folks!
Don’t Hate… Participate.
I say we all should show as much skin as possible at all times!
(Weather permitting, of course.)
A woman should put away the bikini as soon as she feels comfortable naked
Hi, Jack: I am not sure where those godly women are living that they can’t find clothes that cover their bodies sufficiently. I’m in Canada, and I can certainly find clothes that cover me sufficiently to be office-suitable.
At Hannah Lise, all of our long skirts are modest. They won’t hug your hips, show your shape and they won’t have slits.
I dunno. That’s kind of sad. Why does there have to be such extremes? I’ve certainly turned to look at someone I think is dressed inappropriately in public–usually either teenagers or women who are dressed like teens when they’re not–but not even “show your shape”? Where’s the joy?
Well, if you even have to give up shorts by age 20, I would think that means all bikinis should be gone before one hits double digits.
