At what level are chlorides in water damaging to plumbing & appliances?

The EPA has set a maximum contaminant level of 250 ppm, but that is based soly on taste (the water tastes salty at that point). At what point would the chloride level start to corrode copper pipes, damage appliances, rust silverware, etc.?

Not the most fascinating question, i’ll admit, but we are currently trying to figure out our options after a well dug for our home turned up a shockingly high chloride level – 1230 ppm.

And what might cause such a high reading? no other houses in the viscinity have high levels of salt in their water. i had wondered if perhaps the county stored road salt in the past on the exact site that we happened to drill? ideas?
