I mentioned this at the pic-a-nic fest a couple weeks ago, but the Stone Mountain Highland Games are next weekend (10/21-22), and coincide with the GeoBill twins’ first birthday, so we’ll be getting them dressed up in their wee kilts to join the festivities. We’ll be there on Saturday probably from late morning to midafternoon, if any Atlanta Dopers would like to meet up there. This isn’t going to be an organized Dopefest by any stretch, just a “Hey, if we’re there and you’re there, let’s find each other and say hi” kind of thing.
If you’ve never been to a Scottish Games, it’s a really fun time. There’s dancing, and bagpipes (they get a bad rap, but hearing hundreds of pipes all playing “Scotland the Brave” will get the blood going, let me tell you) and bands and people throwing telephone poles and all sorts of other fun things.
Look for us at the Clan Douglas or Clan Gunn tent, or email me for my cell number. Y’all come on down!
Oh man, I’m going to be at Stone Mountain that day, but not at the Highland Games. I’ll be doing a handspinning demo over at the Antebellum area. I hope I don’t freeze!
In past years I’d’ve been at the harp tent, and it would have been an easy walk to the clan tents.
Thanks for the tip! It sounds like just the thing for Mrs. WeHaveCookies and I. I’m quite irked that I’ve never head of this event in the 8 years I’ve lived here.
I’m a Celtic mutt lineage wise, and Mrs. WeHaveCookies is quite partial to the celebrated region having lived in Ireland twice and traveled in Scotland on more than one occasion.
We’ve also been thinking about investing in utilikilts as our commitment ceremony garb, and this will be a good time to have a looksee at some in the flesh, I’m sure.
