Why does it have to be that he left over hurt feelings? If I were him, I cut my losses–the Dope hasn’t become a habit for him, yet, and why explain yourself over and over again? Clearly he has other things to do with his time–like save his house from daily vandals.
He had an interesting story to tell here-one that had lots of potential for discussion of a myriad of topics. Oh, well. Guess we’re back to rants about Bush this and Hillary that etc. Boring.
I will never understand the mentality here: “here’s your hat, what’s your hurry?” seems to sum it up.
I agree, him leaving over this doesn’t mean he’s thin-skinned, it may just mean he doesn’t really have that much invested in staying here. And as Rick said some people highly object to other people insisting that you’re lying when you know you’re not. I know I hate that and that sort of thing gets me extremely angry.
Since he was generally well-liked in his short time here it just would have been nice if the skepticism could have waited until a later date.

I didn’t say it was automatically a lie, just that the whole thing together sounded suspicious, and one would think that the police reaction would at least warrant media attention.

Guinastasia, you can try to tapdance around it, but you just called a man a liar based simply on the fact that his story exceeded your limited experiences. I think that says quite a bit about your character. That’s all I have to say about that.
So what if it sounded suspicious? Does that mean you should open your fat mouth and say so? Especially in the absence of proof? Don’t you think a person deserves the benefit of the doubt? Please. She expressed mild skepticism, mild being the keyword. It’s amazing the amount of venom being thrown around because somebody (or is it just because it’s guin) stated that his story seemed a bit off.
To be honest, I thought it was odd as well. Wouldn’t be the first time somebody lied on the internet to get attention.
Look, it’s O.K. to be skeptical about things like global warming. But it’s downright foolish and rude to be skeptical toward someone claiming to be a SEAL and witnessing lazy police behavior. Yea, maybe there have only been 10,000 SEALs. Do you know for a fact he’s not one of them?
I have met quite a few people who claim to have been in the Green Beret, Navy SEALS, etc. To be sure, I have been skeptical about some of their claims. But it would never occur to me to say to their face that I’m “skeptical” without any evidence or proof. Such would be exceedingly rude, IMO. Besides, even if they’re lying to me, it’s no skin off my back, so what is to gain by making an accusation?

I’m pretty sure this is what it is. It’s quite obvious that those who are coming in running with the attacks on her have a bit of a preexisting hostility towards Guin. Like I said, it’s fine to not like a poster, but save the venom for a time when it is a little more warranted. She was more than mild with her question, just as I think I was. Actually, before I posted any of my earlier replies, I went back and reedited them several times so as not to come out sounding too accusatory.
In her original post she did the little dubious smiley, right? Ok, that was maybe a little over the top, but that’s no big deal.
But it’s not just this one thing with Guin. It’s a pattern with her. You’d think she’s had so many comments backfire on her by now that she’d have learned to either shut the fuck up or at least be less of a dumb bitch if she must post. Apparently not- and that’s precisely the reason why people go ballistic on her when she fucks up yet again. She never learns.
Right, but see- what you just said, is exactly the point I’m making. Everyone runs in to attack her because they have their axes to grind, but in reality, this is probably the least logical time to do it. The comment she made in this thread was mild and - since I agree with her, of course- not terribly out of line (imho and all that).
If she’s as evil as everyone thinks, surely a time will come where you can light the torches and gather the mobs. Right now is not really that time- in fact, it seems a little silly how everyone is absolutely mauling her over an innocent comment. She’s not the one coming out of this looking petty.
And honestly, for a bunch of people who constantly complain that she is an attention whore, you guys all managed to take a perfectly innocent post of hers and turn the whole thread into a Guin-Centric discussion. She didn’t do that herself. Good job on that one.
