I thought that that wasn’t the part that you doubted anyway. Did he really mention it constantly? I’m not about to read over this whole thing again but I remember that he only mentioned it once in passing until someone expressed doubt.

Anyway, briefly I wanted to say that lots take the “Fighting Ignorance” motto seriously, there is the “fool me twice, shame on you” emotional consideration and I don’t think that 1.) anyone should trot out the word troll irresponsibly or 2.) the admins had ever banned anyone over popular opinion(s). However, I could be wrong about any, all or a combination there of. That’s just what I’m getting thus far.

Well stated and I agree. Seems to me like posters just can’t win in the Pit. IMO, if he hadn’t mentioned the SEAL bit first off, and then mentioned it later in his thread here–someone would cry foul! “You didn’t say that at the beginning–you’re changing your story!” or some such BS. My FIL has CA, and still fishes, yet he probably couldn’t fight off a determined Debbie–especially one coming at him when he is on the top of some stairs. She was armed; he was not. And the cops? Come meet the Barney Fifes who work in my town. Why are cops suddenly exempt from being bad humans in this thread? God knows there’ve been enough threads here about their pigheadedness and stupidity.
My take on this is that it sucks to get old and to care about your neighborhood. we had a new family move in around the corner and suddenly we had rocks being thrown on our driveway. Not pebbles–rocks. God knows why and it stopped, but seriously–there are some kids who are just bad news.
It also sucks to have to go to ER to get antibiotics for face scratches (and I can’t believe his doing that somehow adds credence to his “troll” status–you all think Debbie keeps a clean house? God knows where Debbie’s nails have been. Plus, if he does have CA, then most likely he is immuno-compromised, so he needs those ABX).
I don’t give a flying fuck at the moon if he was a SEAL or busted to private or whatever the lowest rank of Navy is. Why does it matter? I really don’t care if he was “born a poor black child”*, either–he had something to contribute and his leaving shows our rudeness to him, not his thin skin or lack of veracity.

Excuse me. I wasn’t trying to brag. I was trying to say I was wrong when I defended him at first. I’m sorry to see justanoldvet go, frankly. I enjoyed his story and was looking forward to seeing more from him. Not only do I have respect for those who’ve served in the military, for a variety of personal reasons, I have a certain affection for Navy vets in particular. I did try VeriSEAL, but, with only an e-mail address and a city, I didn’t have enough information to give them.
I don’t like running off fun, interesting new people at all. There are a great many fun, interesting people around here and I’d like to see that number increase. However, the e-mail address listed in justanoldvet’s e-mail address references his being a SEAL. I found this out when I went to e-mail him to ask him stick around and give us another chance. Before saying anything here, I asked two people whose expertise I have reason to trust – the other one is a coworker who used to be in the Navy. They both told me it was highly unlikely that a former SEAL would be so blatant about his affiliation and, to the dismay of a great many former SEALs, the vast majority of people who claim to be former SEALs aren’t. I really wish justandoldvet had picked something else for his e-mail address. I am genuinely sorry to have been the bearer of bad news. I just wanted to offer independent confirmation of what others suspected.
For the record, I’m sorry he felt the need to leave. But, I have to say, I’m not taking back anything I said-I stand by it. That’s his choice.
Seriously Siege, I don’t think you’ve done anything wrong. Personally, I’d like to know the outcome now too and if you feel up to sharing it (if you pursue this further now) then I’d appreciate the update. If you’d only feel comfortable about that off-board, then either a PM or email would be fine.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I don’t think Jesse Ventura or Rudy from Survivor has ever mentioned having been a Navy Seal.
His mentioning being an ex-Seal came up in the conversation. He wasn’t running around proclaiming it all over the forums in every single post and he didn’t start an “Ask the Navy Seal” thread.
By the way, the stuff I read about real Seals is that they will freely admit to being Seals, they’re not secretive about it, they just don’t brag about it as much as the fake Seals (well, except for Ventura). Also, lots of people who had a career in the military refer to themselves as “vets”, it’s how they identify. I’ve known a few.
By the way, I have a couple email addresses. I have one that has been my email address forever and I have a hotmail account that I made when I started joining forums. The usernames are different. I made the hotmail account because I wanted to keep my other account personal.
Let’s not make a bunch of assumptions without facts, that’s all I’m asking.

I admit, I’m weak, I can’t stay away. However, mostly I was tired of “you’re an attention whore”, all the same crap I hear every time. It gets annoying after a while.

I completely agree. I don’t know on what planet “does anyone else find this hard to believe?” merits the sort of vitriol Guinastatia has garnered.
