Attack of the Crazy Woman

Did she know he is a veteran?

-FrL-

Doesn’t matter.

No, she didn’t, and to his credit, Justanoldvet acknowledges as much. Of course, whether she knew or didn’t know, her behavior was batshit insane, and inexcusable.

Sorry you have such a crazy neighbor, justanoldvet, and I’m really, really super-sorry you have those kids on your street. Because if they’re this bad at 12, 10 and 9, there’s going to be worse things ahead.

Anyway, I’ve got nothing to add but sympathy since I’m fortunate enough not to have ever had crazy neighbors.

I wanted to ask, though – when did you leave the Navy? My husband was Supply Officer at BUD/S back in the late 90s. Good job (one of his favorite shore duty billets, actually) and he enjoyed his time with your community. Our son is also in the Navy (Hospital Corpsman, currently stationed with the Marine Corps at Camp LeJeune) and is considering putting in a BUD/S application when he gets back from his upcoming deployment. Thank you for your service.

It’s not just small PDs that have problems. One of the reasons given by the police officers in the OP for not taking action was that taking action at the end of the shift would inconvenience them. Well, back in August in the early hours of the morning I hard the sound of breaking glass, and soon after a strange, half-naked man walked into my bedroom. I immediately ran downstairs and called the London Met. I told them that there was an intruder in the building, that I didn’t know if he was armed or dangerous, and that I wanted them to send someone right away. It took them three hours to arrive, even after multiple calls. One of the excuses they gave was that it (you guessed it) it was the end of the shift and was inconvenient to get officers to respond right away.

 So Navy SEALs are now hidden booby traps, waiting for us to cut in line in front of one and condemn us to hell because we didn’t know they were so special?

I think you need a lesson in reading comprehension.
Either that or you are just being a dick to be a dick.

I was decommissioned in 87; based out of Coronado.

Nice to “meet” fellow Navy folk… and my best to your son!

Wherethehell did THAT come from?

If it is in response to my post, I’m at a loss.
I made clear ( to a follow up question ) that she did not know I was a veteran, nor a former SEAL, and, in any case, such was irrelevant; her actions were completely out of line for the situation. Period. Full Stop.

I honestly wish I’d never mentioned being an ex-SEAL. Hell, I wish at this point I’d not started the thread at all… as I said, several times: my intention/motivation was to vent my spleen and bitch about a situation that pissed me off. nothing more.
IMNSHFO, calling SEALS, or -any- vet a “booby trap” is offensive. I never asked for anything special. In fact, most SEALS I know, former or active, downplay our affiliation.

I haven’t got the patience for this shit.
I ring the bell

Hey justanoldvet don’t let the nit-pickers get you down. Many of us are really enjoying this thread and all your posts. I was enjoying the fishing one and was very happy to see you had joined up. There will be those who don’t believe anything that appears on the boards – which always makes me wonder why they bother reading these transparent lies – but for many (most?) of us you are fun to read so don’t stop writing!

And as for your neighbors and the police, I guess those doubters should get out more…I personally believe every word, based on my own (sad, harsh) experience.

I think he’s Photoshopped. There is no way he can be real.

Sapo’s post quoted Rilchiam’s comment that it “doesn’t matter” that the lady didn’t know you’re a veteran. So Sapo was responding to Rilchiam, not to your OP.

-FrL-

Coming from a small town, I don’t find his story difficult to believe at all. And I also am not surprised at the crazy lady. Almost every town has one of these…perhaps not with the addiction/reliance/attitude that this one does but along the same lines.

Justanoldvet…don’t give up on us. You, no doubt, having many interesting experiences. We are all not the same. That’s what makes this board so interesting. Please stay.

I didn’t say you were a complete liar-just that I’m skeptical, at least of the actions of the police-they wouldn’t do jackshit? One would think this would at the very least make the news.

Why would you lie-well, we’ve had in the past plenty of people who make up grandious stories for attention. Not saying YOU are necessarily.

Sorry for the confusion. As Frylock explained, as I was responding to Rilchiam (or more accurately, to what I understood he was saying). I was rolling with it even up to the part where bad people are worse if they do bad things to people we value more. (Not that I agree with it, but I can understand why someone would think that). Then I understood that Rilchiam was saying that even if she didn’t know of your “special status”, she still got the penalty points for offending a special person. That really brought out the eye rolling, for reasons I hope don’t need much explaining.

I don’t agree with that.

I am enjoying all your posts I have read (Which I believe are not all you have posted). Far be from me to attack you personally. Again, my apologies if I caused confusion.

That was awesome. I can’t believe that post never had any replies!

Oh, but it did.

Look in the top right of the screen of that post, and you’ll see in the blue band a thread title. Click on it and there you are.

I see. I didn’t notice that the link went to a post in the middle of a thread.

I am completely willing to believe justanoldvet. His description of corrupt small-town PDs sounded right on the money to me. They are in general just big enough to be a pain in the ass and just small enough that they have the same attitude, which generally sucks. The main objective is always to avoid doing paperwork unless said paperwork will earn them money.

From one newbie to another: welcome, justanoldvet, and please hang around.

justanoldvet, I’m curious: What were the “previous dealings” you’d had with the first responding officer, such that you considered him or her a jerk and requested a sergeant or supervisor?
