Sick Around the World | FRONTLINE Here is last weeks Frontline program on healthcare around the world. our system is so bad it is shameful.
Rumor_Watkins:
duh. the FICA taxes she paid while she was employed paid for .5% of what she’s going to recover in her lifetime in the form of disability payments - so she actually did pay for what she’s receiving today. don’t you get it, NO ONE IS CURRENTLY PAYING HER WAY IN LIFE. GAWD, WHAT THE FUCK DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND ABOUT THIS !??!?!?!?!
I was unaware that FICA taxes were in actuality a personal pool of money that you draw from when needed. Does that mean when you’ve exhausted the amount of money that you personally put in, the payments stop? Or do the payments continue BECAUSE IT IS INSURANCE, NOT A SAVINGS ACCOUNT??!?!?!?
What a good idea! How about if health insurance also had a large actuarial pool to rely on… say for instance the entire country’s citizens. Hmmmm…

I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic in your reply to my post, because you misconstrued my post and didn’t recognize my utter sarcasm, or if you actually think that blaming others for sucking on the tit of government while simultaneously enjoying a social insurance/benefit program provided by that same government is not in the least bit contradictory.
I was wondering what that sound was going over my head…
Where’s the sarcasm smiley?
ie. I think we’re on the same page here. You’re just more subtle than me.
At least you’ve got a cool new hairstyle.

You know what?
I’m done.
6 months now I’ve kept an open mind and tried to listen to reasonable arguments from the other side. I’ve tried. Really now, I’ve tried. I have not heard a single convincing argument for why we shouldn’t just adopt a European style of health care. Not one. I’ll support the watered down “compromise” bill passed by exactly ONE Republican but if I had my way I’d don jack boots and whip people into submission until my master Socialist Nazilike communist agenda of helping my fellow Americans came to pass.
But arguing against people who don’t want UHC is just a complete waste of my time. It is so angry and frustrating that these people simply don’t get it. They won’t get it. Maybe not even when they’re personally stricken with cancer and their insurance drops them for no reason other than that it can and no other insurance will touch them and they have to file for bankruptcy. Even then the two functioning brain cells in their bodies won’t connect up to formulate the thought that being part of a safety net that helps when you need it most is probably a good idea and, oh yeah, that’s exactly what a fucking safety net is! That what they thought was a safety net, their insurance, was really just a profit center for the insurance companies and the last thing they want to do is help you or spend money on your illness, contractual obligation or not.
Every single one of you is the stupidest person on the planet. Every one of you. How is that possible? Because if you’re against UHC then I’m talking about you. You’re the stupidest person on the planet. Even stupider than that other guy a few posts back who was railing against UHC. And you’ll continue to be until the next person posts.
Your reasoning make no sense. Your logic is whacked. Your arguments are all gay and your shit’s all retarded.
I don’t give a shit about your rebuttal to this rant because I don’t hold much stock in the intellectual capabilities of the stupidest person on the planet. Which is you, I should point out, because you’re the stupidest person on the planet and need me to connect the dots.
You’re ignorant, you’re stupid, you’re a liar, you listen to liars, you suck at math, you haven’t cared that every. single. other. industrialized nation. in. the. fucking. world. but. ours. has better health care. “Industrialized” meaning “full of industry” which I only explain because you’re the stupidest person in the world and multiple syllable words confuse you.
Honestly, I’m not going to tell you to fuck off and die. No, I’ll tell you to fuck off and get a medical malady which I will then help pay for through my own taxpayer money. Because I’m nice like that.
But either way, I’m done with all of these debates. I’m done. I’m going back to my job now. Someone tap me on the shoulder when these people stop being so goddamned stupid.
Wait, I’m confused. You’re sending mixed messages. How do you really feel?

How, exactly, was anybody supposed to have foreseen the baby boom?
Not the baby boom, but they should have planned for the eventuality of people taking more money out of the system then putting money in.
So just so we’re clear, you’re OK with adding over a trillion dollars to the federal deficit/debt? That’s not even a tiny eensy weensy little reason to not be crazy about the plan in Congress?
Remember that it’s not really us, it’s our kids who will have to pay those bills - largely to China and other foreign states who don’t exactly have our best interests in mind all the time.
Just so we’re clear, you know the Democratic plan would actually reduce the federal deficit, right?

You’re gonna wait for that? Hell will probably freeze over first.
kambuckta:
I’m too lazy to google (it’s Friday arvo here, and it’s been a long week) but I’m pretty damn sure that there are one or two programs the government has instituted to ‘bail out’ people/institutions who were less than careful with their (and our) money, particularly in the last year or so. Keeping up to date with the GEC current affairs might keep YOU abreast of what’s happening in the real world.
What’s the matter kam, there’s no Aussie boards you can post to? How could possibly care about the American health care system in the first place? Just trying to cause trouble, perhaps?
Maybe she cares about us as people and hopes we figure out as a nation that for-profit healthcare is barbaric.
Keep up the ad hominem attacks! They really bolster your case against better insurance. They really do!
Gonna tell Sam Stone he needs to keep his nose out of US issues too?

So your story, and you’re sticking to it, is that the Democratic plan will actually shave the debt, not add to it. Based on Ezra’s blog in the American Prospect/Post…
is that right?

ALL HAIL NANCY PELOSI!
Intergalactic Ruler of the “I know what is best for everybody and I will shove it down your throat” Clan.
She reminds me of Diana on the original “V”.
ALL HAIL THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!
Intergalactic Rulers of the ‘I know what is best for everybody and We will forbid Freedom of Choice to Everyone’ Clan.
They remind me of Hieronymus Bosch’s paintings.
.
So she “cares” about us as people, 308 million of us, most (all?) of which she has never met, a half a world away.
That’s odd, and more than a little creepy.
That, or it’s just RO on her part.
Hey, never underestimate the human capacities for empathy.
Or is it stupidity? I can never remember which.
