Cajun Man and DrMatrix will be traveling to Minnesota via Amtrak, and will have a layover each way in your lovely city. The first layover will be Monday, October 22, from 11:10 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. They will be eating lunch somewhere there in the train station, and would love to meet anyone who has time to take lunch with them that day.
The second layover will be on Sunday, October 28, from 4:20 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. A friend will be taking them out to eat at Food Life at the Water Tower, and any of you who wish to join them are more than welcome.
And to any of you Chicagoans who have travel time for the weekend of Friday & Saturday the 26 & 27, you are welcome to visit St. Cloud, Minnesota, for our mini Dope Fest. We have lots of beds and couches, and could put up some of you, and there are also lodging places for any of you who would prefer that.
I know it is rather late notice, for the Minnesota thing, but any of you who can make it would be more than welcome!
[snip]The first layover wil be Monday, October 22, from 11:10 a.m. to 2:10 a.m.
I hope you mean 2:10p.m.
In any event, I plan in being in the area at that time and would enjoy sharing lunch with Cajun Man and Dr. Matrix. I can meet them at the train if necessary.
For lunch I’m thinking of either of two of Chicago’s classic eateries that are both very close to the train station.
Billy Goat Tavern on Washington(for a decent cheezboorgor)or 65 Chinese on Madison (for the worlds greatest Chinese barbecue pork)
Anybody else want to join, or offer restaurant suggestions?
How will people know each other at the train station in Chicago? Here is a picture of Cajun Man and DrMatrix. Cajun Man will be wearing a very long, bright red scarf, and DrMatrix will be wearing a very long beige scarf. They will also both be wearing black wool overcoats.
The train number on Monday is 49. The train on the following Sunday will be 28.
Any other ideas for Dopers to recognize each other will be appreciated.
Ed Zotti! How cool! And their train was on time to Chicago, and right on time to St. Cloud (although at one time the on-line status check said fourteen minutes late).
We’ll post again here for anyone who might want to meet them on the return trip, a couple of days before they have to leave.
Their train, which was supposed to leave at 5:11 a.m., was running an hour and thirty-five minutes late, so we waited at the station for a while in case it was going to make up some time between Fargo and St. Cloud.
The conductor thought that they would be able to make up a good deal of the lost time between St. Cloud and Chicago, so they may still be at Union Station from 4:20 p.m. until 7:10 p.m.
I was sad to see them go, but they have promised to return as soon as DrMatrix gets more vacation, and they visit some other people whom they have promised.
I could hear the train whistle south of the city when I walked in our back door; it sounded like one last goodbye.
