Chicago-ish Dopers: How about Dinner Downtown, Friday, Sept. 7?

I’ll be in Chicago starting Friday morning, September 7. Over in the MMP, we’ve been planning a dinner meet-up and wanted to invite everyone. Unfortunately, Friday night is the only night I have free (I’m arriving a day early so that we can meet up).

On the attendance list so far:
Mr. Bus Guy
HazelNutCoffee
eleanorigby
interface2x
gardentraveler

MBG will be accompanied by his lovely wife. Haze will have her grad school friend, Scottish Darling, in tow.

rigs has expressed interest in someplace Italian. The restaurant needs to be reasonably priced. We’d like to meet somewhere not too loud or dark so that we can talk comfortably.

Giordano’s near the river (the one on Jackson, I think) has been suggested as a possibility. Other suggestions?

So, who else wants to join us?

GT

IN!

Oh you have me there…

Mention also that Dear Wife has consented to spend her wedding anniversary in the company of Dopers on that night. I did some major sucking up, and I think it might cost me more down the line…

Oh that’s right, there’s a Giordanos on Jackson…there’s another, farther north, on E. Lake, by Prudential Plaza, which, if I remember right, is right at the station rigs would be coming off the train from.

Here’s the list of Giordano’s locations within 5 miles of 60605. Do you mean the 3rd one down? Here’s the Yellow Pages map for it. Either one’s fine with me, as I won’t know the difference.

GT

That’s the one.

If I remember right, there was Chi-Dope Fest a few summers back that I had to miss, but I believe it was held there too.

That would be quite convenient for moi–it’s really close to Randolph St station. I’m happy to go somewhere else–does Little Italy still exist? (you can see how much I get downtown to eat out these days).

What time would dinner be? <flips through train schedule>

MBG–I think you will be paying and paying–what with your mother coming to stay for 2 weeks etc right after this. Just go buy the diamonds now.

Harumph.
That’s all I have to say about that.

Never been to Chicago and I’m having some Doper dinner envy. You guys suck.

Realistically the soonest I can get there is about 5. I can leave work early enough, Dear Wife gets off at 4:30, but works downtown so once I park, walk over and get her, it’s 5.

I’d love to come, but I probably wouldn’t be able to be there until at least 6:30. Is that too late? Not sure what time people are thinking.

No go for dinner, but I’d love to see you over lunch, or for lunch any day the following week.
If you wanted to go for a lakefront run at lunchtime, I could get you in and out of a locker room/shower.

How about 6? Is that too late for MBG? I can also do 630, I just don’t want to be on the 10pm train home. God, I’m old. What’s next-wearing a sweater no matter the weather?

6 - 6:30 is fine. I can make anytime, so long as it’s not too early - early’s tougher for me than late.

SOME of us can stay up late. :stuck_out_tongue:

We can always meet somewhere at 5 and either have something to drink or wander around somewhere and then meet others for dinner at 6 or 6:30. Sarahfeena, we’d love to see you - I wanna meet everyone!

Dinsdale - I get into Midway around 10 (assuming things are on time) and can check in at 11. I was hoping to have lunch at Topolobampo - it’s my one splurge - but would love to have company if you’re game (anyone else is welcome along too). If no one wants to go there with me on Friday, we could go somewhere else and I’ll go on Saturday.

LOUNE - you could drop by Chicago… It’s not *that *far from Detroit. :stuck_out_tongue:

My best friend teaches high school (Gymnasium) English in Germany and will be arriving Saturday afternoon with her daughter and a group of 10 high school boys (I think the boys are about 18; my goddaughter is 13), so AFAIK I’ll be completely tied up playing chaperone/godmother the rest of my stay. I’ll have my laptop with me and wireless access where we’re staying, so if things get flexible, I’ll post here.

GT

Oh, shut up. I’m way cuter. <sticks tongue out>

I can also do later much better than earlier. If possible, roughly 7 pm, but if necessary, I can cut out of the office a little early.

It’s far enough to be a pain.
pout

Oh, LOUNE, quit complainin’. Now, if you lived where I lived, then you could pout. I’m having serious envy too.

No one ever come out here to the PNW.

I was there approximately 17 years ago. Does that count? Lovely area-it didn’t rain once. I think you all talk about the rain to make people not want to go there so that it stays nice for those who are already there. Or something like that.

It’s 4 hours and change from Detroit to Chicago. It’s a 6 hours plane ride from Seattle. This is a problem?

Yeah, I didn’t win the Lotto, so I’m not exactly flush with cash, ya know?

Oh, the rain thing? Yes, we say that to, a) keep the tourists to a minimum; and b) to keep people from actually moving here.

Oh, and 17 years ago?! You’re overdue. We’ll make an exception in your case and let you come. So, fly on out. It’s only a 6 hour flight.

Hmph. Yes. It is a problem.
