Attn Sportscasters: When Tiger Woods is 10 Back, He's NOT the Lead Story!!!!!

Sure, it’s really simple.

Got it?

Oh, my! Tiger Woods is 10 strokes off the lead!

We need Affirmative Action imediately.

Hey, THAT summary would have been better than the one on my local news station. At least your summary mentions Darren Clarke!

Look, I understand there’s a show biz component to sports and to sports news, and that for many casual fans, Tiger Woods is a bigger story than the tournament itself. If I were a newscaster, I’m sure I’d have mentioned Tiger, just because so many people would want to know where he stood. But is it really so much to ask that the sports anchor mention the name of the leader, just ONCE???

Anyone noticed how Tiger’s game’s declined since he dumped his caddy (good ole Fluff) and employed an FBI man to carry his bag?

Tiger: What’s the distance, Agent Williams?
Agent Williams: Stand back! Put that camera away! Gimme that cell phone! Let’s see some ID.
Tiger: Um, Agent Williams, the distance?
Agent Williams: Just aim for that TV tower, sir… Put that cigarette out!

You should watch Formaula 1 in Germany… the camera is always on Micheal Schumacher!! Irrespective of whether he’s in the lead or right at the back of the grid (not that that happens much), the camera will always be on him. It gets especially frustrating when he’s leading the rest of the grid by large margin - there may be awesome wheel-to-wheel dogfights going on for positions 2,3 and 4, but the damn camera is always on Schumacher!

I personally like Tiger Woods alot. I think he is a great player and has done alot for the game of golf. BUT, I was flabbergasted, shocked and actually angry when ESPN named him the #1 athlete of all time on their show last Sunday. I mean, we had Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzy, Mark Spitz and a host of toher athletes and they chose an individual who, although deserves some rank, should not be considered the #1 athlete of all time. If he keeps this up and starts winning more, we’ll talk. But, kow-towing to the popular culture in naming a contemporary, media icon as the #1 athlete is shameful. I can;t imagine one, reasonable, unbiased person, concurring with ESPN.
