I was under the impression that the moderators would close a thread if the opening poster requested it. I seem to recall seeing a thread closed with this as an explanation of why.
Is this correct? Will a thread be closed if the poster who opened it asks?
I asked to have my thread “Thomas Paine American Hero?” closed. But there was no response. I have since changed my mind. Posters are discussing Thomas Paine, whom I enjoy reading about. I want them to be able to continue if they wish.
We don’t promise we’ll always close a thread at the request of the OP. We don’t want to squelch an interesting discussion just because the OP has gotten tired of it. However, if (a) a topic has been pretty much beaten to death, gone off the rails, etc., and (b) the OP requests, yeah, we’ll probably close it. To ensure that your request isn’t overlooked, it’s best to E-mail it to the forum mod.
Ed put the most important part at the end: “it’s best to E-mail it to the forum mod.”
E-mail works fast, fast, fast! And there’s no unpleasant aftertaste…
Seriously, it’s no use waiting for a mod to (a) notice that you want a thread closed and (b) close it. They’re busy, they can’t be everywhere. Send an e-mail.
Be warned that Lynn has a well-deserved reputation for refusing to close Pit threads, in order to teach the OP a lesson about starting pointless fights. Best example right now is the “Catfight” thread.
So be cautious before you start anything in the Pit.
