Audi commercial with battling Spocks

I love the idea that it could be Simon Pegg, but I think if it were, they’d have made it more obvious…

I shall assume everyone involved was well and thoroughly baked through the concept, creation and publishing of this.

I suspect that Nimoy needed the money.

That’s probably a good call. The song was released in early 1968 and was in production during late 1967, when it looked like Star Trek was going to be cancelled. If he didn’t actually NEED the money, he probably thought he would soon.

He wrote some books:

I Am Not Spock.

Oops, Perhaps I Am.

And then came the films.

Kill me off!

Oops, bring me back.

Someone (elsewhere) notes “the WoK reference”–what would that be?

WoK = Wrath of Khan. Near the end, when Nimoy pulls up in his car, he acts out Spock’s death sequence through the window (in the movie, the same scene was done through a transparent radiation barrier that Spock was on the wrong side of).

Only problem I had with it: the only way I noticed it was an Audi commercial was in reading people talking about it. And I never noticed that [del]Spock[/del]Nimoy was driving a Mercedes. But I don’t follow cars at all.

(I left the error in because that’s how I originally typed it.)

EDIT: I’d say both looked different than I’d expected to see them, Nimoy with his long hair and Quinto in a beard.

For the logic of Surak, do not click on that link, if you value your sanity at all.

What I noticed was that Nimoy was portrayed as the somewhat out of touch “old guy”(His car stereo doesn’t work? Is that why he sings to himself?), while Quinto is the “hip & tech savy” dude with a sleek new luxury car, sporting all sorts of bells and whistles.

Yay stereotypes. Yawn. Still, Nimoy wasn’t completely feeble. (“Technically, we’re not inside, yet.” [neckpinch] )

Nimoy also won their chess match.

That’s right!

Nimoy’s Merc wasn’t too shabby - just didn’t have a big trunk.

The car at the end was Stanford’s Shelley - a self-driving Audi:

Would have fit fine if he’d taken out that one club and put it in the back seat.

Well, it’s not your father’s Oldsmobile.

No, that would have just made all the other clubs jealous.

Nice reference.

That was fun. Thanks.

No no, according to Comic Book Guy it goes:

“First I Am Not Spock, then I Am Spock, and finally I Am Also Scotty!” (picture on cover has Nimoy with a mustache, a big hoagie, and a huge fat gut!)
